HEALING IN JESUS’ NAME
THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES
CHAPTER 3
Glad to have you
back again! We’re following the Apostles through the book of Acts, and we
left off with what happened at Pentecost. You read the sermon that Peter
gave to the people, and how confident his words were. Now, let’s look in on
Peter and John as their boldness in the Lord continues.
Next, Peter and
John went together to the Temple at the hour of prayer, which was the ninth
hour, or 3 p.m. A man, who was lame from the time he was born was carried to
the gate of the Temple each day to ask alms of the people who entered the
Temple.
When he saw Peter
and John about to go in, he asked them for money and Peter, fixed his eyes
on him with John and said, Look at us. The man paid attention, expecting to
receive something from them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none,
but what I have, I’ll give to you. In the name
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.
Peter took the man by the right hand and lifted him up. Immediately his feet
and ankle bones received strength, and leaping up, he stood and walked into
the Temple with them, walking and jumping and praising God.
All the people saw
him walking and praising God and they recognized him as the man who sat for
alms at the Beautiful gate of the Temple. They were awestruck with amazement
at what had happened to him.
As the man held
Peter and John, all the people ran to them in Solomon’s porch, very curious.
When Peter saw them, he said to the people, You men of Israel, why are you
surprised at this? Why do you stare at us as though by our own power or
holiness we made this man walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the
God of our fathers has glorified His Son Jesus, whom you delivered up, and
denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But
you denied the Holy One and the Just, and wanted a murderer released to you
instead. You killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead,
and we are witnesses. And faith in His name has made this man strong, whom
you see and know. Yes, his faith in Jesus has given him this perfect healing
in the presence of all of you. And now brothers, I know that through
ignorance you did it, and your rulers as well. But those things that God
showed before by the mouth of all His prophets, that Christ should suffer,
He has fulfilled.
So repent, and be
converted, so your sins may be erased, when the
times of refreshing
will come from the presence of the Lord. And He will
send Jesus Christ, which before was preached to you, whom the Heaven must
receive until the times of restitution of all
things, which God has spoken by the mouth of
all His holy Prophets since the world began.
Moses truly said
to the fathers, The Lord your God will raise a prophet up unto you of your
brothers, and as you listen to me, listen to the things He will say to you.
Every soul who doesn’t listen to that prophet, will be destroyed from among
the people. Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that came after,
as many as have spoken, have also told of these days. You’re the children of
the prophets, and of the covenant that God made with our fathers, saying to
Abraham, And in your seed, will all the families of the earth be blessed.
Unto you first God, having raised up his Son
Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his
iniquities.
Can you sense the power of the Holy Spirit is Peter’s
speech? Although Peter has always had a reputation of being vibrant, this is
a different Peter than we’ve seen before. This is Peter, inspired by the
Comforter
that his Lord promised. Be sure and come on back next time, as we tag along
