LAWS TO LIVE BY
BOOK OF EXODUS
CHAPTER 21-23
How nice it is to have you join us
again here at Daily Bread. We're in the middle of the book of Exodus and
Moses is up in the mount, listening as God tells him His rules for the
people. These laws were given to the Israelites in the Old Covenant between
the Israelites and God. A Covenant is a contract of the heart between man
and God.
Hers is a DEFINITE Bread Stick ... NEVER
FORGET that God spoke in prophecy through His Prophet in Jeremiah 31:31-34
that He was going to make a NEW Covenant (New Testament) and in Zechariah
11:7-14 it shows that He did in fact break the Old Covenant that He had and
even predicted that He (Jesus) would be sold out for 30 pieces of silver.
This is AWESOME as He is predicting what Judas will do to Jesus. It was
confirmed further by Paul in Hebrews 8:6-8 saying that Jesus is the mediator
of the New Covenant. This is why they call the Old Covenant the Old
Testament and the New Covenant the New Testament. The New Testament is based
on Grace and Faith ... Not law.
Now this does NOT mean that the Law is of no effect. Instead it is saying
that when you believe in Jesus, God will place the laws within your heart.
The Old Covenant is kinda like a woman who married a man out of fear and was
to obey the rules of her husband. They failed. God said He looked down
on Earth and He could not find one that had done good. NO, not one.
Soooo, in order to save His children, He sacrificed His Son Jesus ... Now,
in the New Covenant, it is different in that the woman would TRULY obey her
husband because she loved Him in FAITH.
The laws that God passed down through
Moses to the ISRAELITES can be found in the next few chapters. We will allow
you to check those out on your own cuz they are pretty detailed.
I will share with you that the very LAST law that He gave them was that the
Israelites are not to make a "Covenant" with surrounding nations or
surrender their land for anything. They just did this with Palestine.
We'll study more of the laws that God was giving to Moses for His people
while he was up in the mount when we return next time here at Daily Bread.
