JOURNEYING
NUMBERS
CHAPTER 10
Great to have you back again to join
us for another slice of Daily Bread. We're joining Moses and the children
of Israel today as they leave mount Horeb. They've been there at the mount
since the third month after they left Egypt.
Keep in mind that their task was to
travel to the promised land. BUT ... The people gave God a hard time so they
were punished by being made to just wait. The first journey that the
children of Israel took out of the wilderness of Sinai was on the 20th day
of the second month in the second year after they left Egypt. The cloud was
taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony and they assembled in the
manner that the Lord commanded. When the ark went forward from the middle
of the camps, Moses said, Rise up, Lord, and let thine enemies be scattered;
and let them that hate thee flee before thee.
Again ... Keep in mind as they traveled from Egypt to the promised land they
had to walk through other people's countries. These people didn't like a
large group of people doing this.
Moses' brother-in-law, Hobab from
Midian was with him and Moses told him, We're going to the Promised Land
that God spoke of. Come with us and we'll be good to you. The Lord has
promised to bring good to Israel. Hobab answered, I won't go with you, but
I'll go back to my own land and my people. But Moses said, Don't leave us,
I ask you, since you know the wilderness, you can help us. If you go with
us, the goodness that the Lord does to us, we'll show the same goodness to
you.
From the mountain of the Lord, they
traveled three days journey and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went in
front of them for those three days to look for a resting place for them.
The cloud of the Lord was upon them by day when they went out of the camp
and when it rested in the wilderness of Paran, Moses said, Return, O Lord,
unto the many thousands of Israel.
Be sure to come back and see what
occurs next in the wilderness in your Daily Bread Bible Study.
