THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE ROMANS
CHAPTER 5
Welcome back to Daily Bread. Now where were we? We were discussing the Faith
in God and Jesus Christ that clears us of sin, and that good works, although
they are good, they do not pay for the
Grace that God gives
us. We learned about the strong Faith that Abraham had and how God saw that
as Abraham’s righteousness. Now Paul explains still more about Faith.
Therefore being justified by Faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom also we have access by Faith into this Grace in
which we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
And not only this, but we rejoice in tribulations also,
knowing that tribulation works (develops) patience,
and patience, experience,
and experience, hope,
and hope makes us bold,
because the love of God streams widely in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost which is given to us.
For when we were helpless
at the time of God’s choosing, Christ died for the
ungodly.
For rarely will a man die for another righteous man,
yet perhaps for a good man some might dare to die.
But God expresses His love toward us,
in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
And more than that, being now justified by His blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by
the death of His Son, much more certainly, being reconciled, we shall be
saved by His life.
And not only this, but we also rejoice in God through our
Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom we have now received the forgiveness.
Therefore, just as by one man (Adam), sin entered into the
world (Genesis
2:17),
and because of sin, death, (Genesis
3:19),
and so death passed upon (was inherited by) all men,
and because of that
all have sinned,
(Because from the time of Adam, until the law was given to
Moses,
sin was in the world:
but sin is not counted when there is no law.
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses,
even over them that had not sinned similarly to Adam,
who is the figure of Him that was to come.
But unlike Adam’s sin, is the free gift.
For if through the sin of one man, many be dead,
much more powerfully the Grace of God, and the gift by
Grace,
which is by one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded to many.
And not like it was by one man that sinned, is the gift,
for the judgment was by one to condemnation,
but the free gift is of many sins unto justification.
For if by one man's sin, death reigned by one,
much more they which receive abundance of Grace
and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by
one, Jesus Christ.)
Therefore as by the sin of one man,
judgment came upon all men to condemnation,
even so by the righteousness of one man, Jesus Christ,
the free gift came upon all men unto justification of
life.
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners,
so by the obedience of one man, shall many be made
righteous.
Moreover the law entered
that the sin might abound.
But where sin abounded, Grace did much more abound,
that as sin has reigned unto death,
even so might Grace reign through righteousness unto
eternal life
by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Whew! Let me
condense that last paragraph a little bit for you. One man, Adam, brought
sin into the world. How much more powerful is the Grace, which one man,
Jesus Christ brought into the world? Much more. Paul calls Grace the free
gift. By accepting the free gift, you put to death . . . death!
Next time, Paul gives us a little lesson about sin. Don’t miss it, right
here, at Daily Bread.
