BLURRY SCREEN ... OR THE NEED FOR LOVE
Written by

One night I was on
line. OK, you say, “That is news?” On that particular
night someone mentioned that when she took her glasses
off the screen became blurry. This is understandable
since most of us wear our eyeglasses to improve our
vision. I have worn glasses for most of my adult
life. First, just for reading or close work. Later I
progressed to fulltime; then to bifocals and later to
progressive lens. Without my glasses what I see is
blurry, so, guess what? I keep them on most of the
time.
When the person made
the remark about the words on the screen becoming
blurry when she removed her glasses, it reminded me of
a scripture verse in Corinthians. Paul was telling the
Corinthians about spiritual gifts and Christian
love. In 1 Corinthians 13:12 Paul penned these words:
For now we see
through a glass, darkly, but then face to face; now I
know in part; but then shall I know even as I am
known. KJV
Now we see but a
poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face
to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully,
even as I am fully known. NIV
Now we see things
imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see
everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now
is partial and incomplete, but then I will know
everything completely, just as God knows me now. NLT
For now we see in a
mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in
part, but then I will know fully just as I have been
known before. NASB
This verse is toward
the end of the chapter, known to many as the “love
chapter.” Paul was emphasizing that although we might
be empowered by the Holy Spirit to have many spiritual
gifts, such as speaking in tongues, the gift of
prophecy, the gift of giving, or Faith, if we have not
love in our hearts, it counts for nothing. To do the
will of the Father, we need to be looking at the
picture clearly, not through a dim mirror…..as in the
case of the lady who removed her eyeglasses, looking
at a blurry screen.
So I guess what I am
trying to say is this: Keep your “eyeglasses of love”
on so you will see things clearly, as the Father sees
us. To me verses 9 – 12 refer to the second coming of
Christ….my thoughts only. No one told me this.
