KITTEN PROTECTS HER YOUNG
Written by Luz Leigh – 20 June 2008
If you follow my writings, you will remember that
about ten days ago I wrote “Are You a Kitten?” in
which I related something about the cat who lives
in my back yard. Kitten is being used by the Lord
to teach me some valuable lessons about life.
She is a small cat but has a strong
will to live and to protect her young. Yesterday
I had placed her morning meal near the back door
and was standing at the kitchen sink washing
dishes. I know….hard to conjure up that sight; I
do it so seldom. All of a sudden I heard a dog
yelp and saw three stray dogs run past the
window. Then the funniest sight happened. There
was Kitten, all fuzzed up, every hair on her body
and tail standing out, looking like the cats we
see in cartoons when they are upset about
something. She was in hot pursuit of those dogs.
All were big dogs but not a match for this little
momma cat.
She was not in the mood to share her
breakfast, nor did she want those strays around
her babies, who were hiding nearby. She makes it
a point to keep those babies hidden and in a safe
place.
By the time I could grab my gun and get out the
back door, the dogs were nearly a block away,
still running. Kitten’s hair had not fallen back
into place, but she was a little calmer. I
complimented her on her courageous action and
returned to the kitchen. Kitten finally finished
her meal.
My thoughts went to the difference
between Kitten and some of the human “mothers” we
hear about. Those who drop their newborn infants
in a dumpster or try to flush them down the
toilet. Or when the children are a little older,
these baby-makers (they are not mothers) abuse the
little angels or allow others to do so. Animals
are born with the instinct to protect and provide
for their young. More and more it seems human
females seem to be losing sight of what that
“thing” is….that living, breathing infant, to
which they gave birth….made in the image of God
Himself.
Here in Texas, and maybe other states,
if a mother simply cannot or will not take care of
her baby, she can, without fear of prosecution,
leave that baby at the doorway of a hospital or at
a fire station where it can be found and given a
chance to live. The baby can be given proper
medical attention and a home can be found for it.
But, do all these women take advantage of this?
No, they continue to dispose of the babies as if
they were just a piece of garbage.
When I saw Kitten chasing those dogs,
my heart overflowed with love and admiration for
God’s creature. She was willing to risk her life
to protect her young. Any one of those dogs was
large enough to have killed her.
Our Lord GAVE His life to protect us from
eternal death and provide us with eternal
salvation. When we fully trust in Him, we have no
fear from things or people who might harm us. We
cannot be separated from Him. The apostle Paul
wrote to the Christians in Rome, words that apply
to us today, the following:
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life,
neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor
the future, nor any powers, neither height nor
depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be
able to separate us from the love of God that is
in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 NIV
