wanted to know if there was a group that is just for my area-Georgia? also don't understand how chat works.

No area groups. If you go to the chat button at the top, it should let you sign in. People tend to be there late in the day. They can help you with the set up. If nobody is there and you are on your computer, leave it open and wait a while - read your emails or something. Someone will likely pop in in a few minutes. Often, people just don't wait for someone else to show up.

You can also scroll down on the home page and it will tell you who, if anybody, is in chat.
