Should I join the army?

Postby TMB » Fri May 04, 2012 8:47 pm

I was on a website that talked about figuring out what God wants our career to be and it said that the devil can try any led you to another geographic location to distract you. Anyways,I have always been in love with animals and being a vet tech is what I've wanted to do since I was young. One day there were army guys at my school and my friends and I wanted the bracelets that they give out. In order to get 1 you had to give them your #. Im the only one that was asked to set up an appointment with to learn more & maybe sign up. Ive though about the military before and I kinda want to do it. And I can be a vet tech for them. Well back to the geographic location being a distraction thing, I was wondering if the army would constitute as that for me. I feel anxiety towards joining but I feel like if I dont I will have wished I had done it for the rest of my life. What do I do? Ive already tried asking God but I'm still confused.

Hello TMB

Welcome to Christianity Oasis

As far as the enemy leading anyone to any geographic location goes ... well , Christianity itself flourished in another geographic location other than Israel , so ... :)

What striked me most odd though , is the fact that the "army" guys asking for #'s to give out bracelettes ... something about that is not sitting right with me .
I am a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces , and things like that kind of make me scratch my head a bit . :)

Not I am saying either join or no join ... but the fact of your mentioning "anxiety" on the issue , a strong possibility says it is not of God's plan -- God is no author of confusion --- Have you considered scholaships , without having to join the military for the ONLY reason of college ?

Glad to have you
In Christ , our Lord

I have applied for scholarships. I don't want to join becaue of that. Also, they ask for your numbers so that the army can call you and talk to you. Thanks for your feedback :)

I say, you might want to now, but later on probably not. You should just wait for an answer from God. I say do it, but pray to God too.

Hey, I just wanted to share with you from some personal experience. I spent 4 years in the US Navy and had a great time. Of course this was prior to me having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Military life is a very difficult path to choose. I takes, commitment and devotion as well as a lack of self-importance. Meaning that if you value your life over the lives of others, its not for you. I would never tell anyone what God's purpose for their life is, however I will say that God can and will use anyone, for any purpose. The thing about the military is that you don't get to make choices. You do what they say. There are good things about it though. It does give you opportunities to share the name of Jesus Christ in places where it might not otherwise reach. Which is a pretty cool thing? I wish I would have known Christ as my savior when I was in....I went all over the world. But that's ok, I am doing my best to make up for all those missed opportunites now. THe bottom line is that a job is a job. It's not where you are or what you do, but how you represent your God at all times of your life. If the military looks good to you, GO FOR IT! If school and becoming a vet looks best, GO FOR IT!!! Just remember one thing, 1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Jehovah God and his son Jesus christ care for us and would never want to see people die, and especially innocent people gets killed everyday because of country's to busy trying to get at each other to the point that they dont care if they kill a baby or anyone. They feel like thats their job but its not, people called themselves true christians or a follower of Jesus but sometimes we have to ask ourselves what would Jesus do. Would Jesus go to the army rather he's killing or not knowing that his father and him hate violence. In Matt.26:52-
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Isa.2:2-4-2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. And finally Luke.6:27,28-27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. These scriptures clearly shows that Jesus want us to love our enemies and going to the army or the military period is not love and it would be going against Jesus words.

The army is, unfortunately, a necessary part of life. And it always has been. And I imagine it will be until Christ comes again. There is honor in being in the army.

I do want you to know that they do not have to fulfill any promise made to you. They can assign you anywhere they want you. And you could have to bear arms.

If your recruiter denies this, then you should run. If he admits it and tell you that this is true but that he has a particular need for what you want to do - then it might be a great opportunity.

Once you sign, they decide. They may or may not listen to your opinion and take it under advisement.
Hugs,
Dema

This is a big decision for you. I would suggest that you take some time with it. Pray. Talk to your family. Do you have family members who have served in the military? They can offer you a realistic view.

The military isn't going anywhere, and I assume that you are young and will eligible for enlistment for years to come. You have a lot of time, so take the time to make the best decision.

Working with animals is wonderful and noble work. You might want to go to a animal hospital, vet clinic or shelter and talk with those who have entered and are working in the field. They can also offer you a realistic view of that career path.

In either case, whether military enlistment, working with animals, or something else that may arise, take time, don't rush to a decision. Talk with others, listen to what God is saying in your heart.

I spend time in the US Army myself, I enlisted as a chaplain assistant and they made me Infantry and I stayed infantry till I was discharged under honorable conditions medically. I was in less than a year and broke my back. I'm now partially disabled and have a hard time working physical jobs which is this economy is a must to provide for yourself. Let the Lord lead you, I went in and came out 9 months later injured. But if God clearly tells you too go do it! It's very honorable and does have great benefits.
