Jesus cried with a loud voice

“ And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46

Have heard many Christians over the years ask why did God the Father forsake His own Son on the cross, or hear someone ask why was God silent when Jesus was on that cross. I remember a time when I didn’t understand any of that either. Over the years the meaning has become more and more clear and have come to a much deeper appreciation for what Christ has done in that cross for you and me. When sin came into the world it separated is from God, it left a gap that needed filling in.

Christ became sin for us (2 Cor.5:21), it separated Him from His Father. For a moment in time, and in reality that’s all it was, a moment. God had to look away, away from His Son who became sin for us that He might would pay our debt.

Here is something we need to understand, Jesus who is one with the Father, whom He had always known the loving fellowship of the Father. He had never experienced being separated from His Father. He had always been in perfect harmony with His Father. Then Jesus came and gave His life for us. (John 10:14,15,17,18). Though He knew He had the power to give His and then take it up again, meaning to rise back to life. He had for the first time become separated from His Father. The difference between us being separated from God because of sin and Jesus being separated from God for that short time is this. We have never known what it meant to be in perfect communion with God before sin came about, we are all born sinners. Though I knew without a doubt God has always watched over me from the time I was born, He even knew me while being formed in my mother’s womb.

Because of that sin disease that was in me it had me separated from Him. The same for all of us. Jesus on the other hand knew being in perfect communion with the Father always, but then taking on the sins of the world upon Himself. Can you imagine the sins of the world, just think on that. Even when Jesus was in agony in the garden praying before He was arrested His sweat was as great drops of blood falling to the ground. Personally I believe He was in the midst of taking on all our sin’s upon Himself or least beginning to have ours sins placed upon Himself. (Like 22:44)

Was hit with that question within minutes awaking this morning, im hoping sharing my response and thoughts may help someone else understand when Jesus was on the cross and He cried out in a loud voice saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” understand more of what was happening why Jesus would cry as He did.

God bless!
