I know there's hope.

This forum is for those souls 18 years and older who are dealing with some type of addictive behavior whether it be from alcohol, drugs, overeating, fear, worry, sex, etc. Only with help and guidance from God can we ever hope to overcome these addictions. What is impossible for us to do IS POSSIBLE with God. Friends and family of those stricken with addictions are welcome to share as this problem affects more than just the soul entangled in its web.

I know there's hope.

I'm ashamed of my condition. I can do good for about a week and then I fall into temptation. I have taken the necessary steps, such as volunteering my time with church and other volunteer programs ,but for some reason I am weak. Ive started reading more christian books and they all tell me to find something to do with my time, but late in the night when i should be sleep I am tempted. I am totally convinced that this area of my life is what's keeping me from attaining a better relationship with God. The problem was at first a full blown sex addiction but now since Ive giving my body to christ I am addicted to masturbating. Please help!

Sexual desire is natural. Treating it like this monster sin makes it the center of your life. The biggest problem with this kind of thing is it separating you from God and perhaps leading you into bigger sins like pornography or sexual promiscuity with others. If when you do it if you would just get back into fellowship with God, then it will have the least disruption on your life. Keep in mind that Jesus talked about the thinking about it being the same as doing it. If you think about not doing it for twelve hours a day, then I truly believe that that is far, far worse than spending three minutes on it and getting back into fellowship with God.

Now that doesn't apply to everything. You can't go kill somebody in three minutes and then get back into fellowship with God and everything is great. But this is a natural urge that is supposed to be strong in order to encourage marriage and children. It is rather unique.

So, figure it out - how can you spend the most time feeling good in God's presence? Dwelling on this all day every day? Or just accepting your weakness, confessing that you are weak, and going to God as a little child and being blessed?
Hugs,
Dema

Feeling bad about yourself makes you more prone to doing it again. Do not feel condemned about it - if it happens dust yourself off and continue your walk with God. Do not spend time feeling pityful, bad, dirty etc. Over time you will have total victory.

Also, feelings of worthlessness, defeat, rejection and self pity also contributes to it; habouring resentment and unforgiveness as well. Read and mediate on the Word on who you are in Christ; know that God loves you unconditionally. Forgive your self and others and with God grace, you will eventually have victory.
Finally, there are Bible Studies on this website on relevant topics - may the Holy Spirit guide you to find those suitable for you.
God bless you; you are God's chosen one - He loves you and cares deeply for you and He is with you in this.
