A Cup of Comfort

Renewing our minds daily in Christ helps us to control our emotions and lead a more productive life in Christ instead of being swept away in the whirlwind of emotions this life can throw at us daily.

A Cup of Comfort

Postby kimberly » Sat Mar 29, 2008 3:55 pm

Welcome, friend. I'm so glad you decided to stop in. Sit with me a while and have a cup of tea. You can put your tired feet up and rest, and we will talk about things that comfort us.

What are your favorite comforters? Mine include calls from close friends, sitting on a soft chair and having a cup of spice tea, gentle rain, and warm fresh-baked bread.

My best comfort is in the person of the Holy Spirit...He gives me all those comforts I mentioned, and so many more. He always knows what I need, and when I need it. I wrap myself in Him as I would a familiar quilt, enjoying all the spiritual warmth and rest I need.

Let me share a bit of comfort He gave me recently....Ps 94:19....' In the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me, Your comforts cheer and delight my soul!'

When I thought of the many comforts He provides, in any time of trouble or sorrow, I was cheered. Just knowing He cares enough to give me those comforts.....whether it is an answer to a prayer, or merely my little doggie laying her head on my shoulder....and everything in between.

My anxious thoughts are quieted, and I experience some of the 'green pasture' moments I so need.

I encourage you friend, to seek His comforts out, noticing them as you go through your next day. I'm glad you came, and I hope to see you again soon.

Peace and Comfort to you always....Kim

I like how you notice how your dog laying her head on your shoulder is God providing comfort. Too many times I look for the "obvious" comfort... the someone going out of their way to help me comfort... the stopping everything until I hear God to speak to me comfort...
All of those are good...
But when I think of it, God is probably providing comfort BEFORE I cry out to Him in pain. (Kind of like preventing things before they get out of hand). Whether it be the right songs at the right moment, a friend saying "I love you", my bird singing a song (at the top of her little lungs) for me, or my dog wanting my attention to play. I demand too many "All powerful God moments"... when really He's probably whispering comfort throughout my day that I ignore..that if I just pay attention, it could prevent me from my "bad nights" I might have.

Thanks for that slap in the face Kim :) I needed it.

Oh, Pearly....you are so right on target.....God is our comforter, and is ahead of us every step of the way.

God created all things....including the sweet animals He has given us to take care of....I'm so glad yours show their love for you, which...like God's, is unfailing.

P.S.---I would never slap you. :D You run too fast.

Welcome back, my friend...I'm happy to see you again. Sit here with me at my table and have a warm cinnamon roll, maybe a cup of tea? Sharing home-made bread has always had a place in my heart. There is something so spiritual about it.

Maybe that is because when I first began my walk with God, He called me to a bread ministry. Sounds funny, doesn't it? But I made many friends, soothed many neighbors, and created several covenants....usually with the most unlikely people.

My mother and I have a 'bread thing' of sorts....every other week she goes to a neighboring city and buys 2-3 loaves of home style breads in different varieties. Each morning, she and I share toast from this bread with our coffee.

This physical sharing of bread so ministers to my spirit.......we talk, laugh, remember, and share during this early morning time, and I know each of these times will never happen again. These days I am sharing with her are gifts from God, each one unique and special.

I am not concerned about the days gone by, or what the future days bring.....I am learning to live 'in the now'. Jesus said it best when He said...."Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:34)

What joy and comfort I find in this verse! Jesus, saying to me..."don't worry....let things happen as they may", because even thought the day itself may contain troubles...Jesus has overcome them. Seeking God's kingdom (v.33), assures me that there is nothing for me to worry about.

I have been reminded by God each day this week that this spiritual bread He gives us in His Word is to be just as much a daily thing as toast with my mom....it ministers to my spirit and keeps me focused on each day being a gift from God, and I should treat it that way.

I realize not everyone has a mom with toast, but we are al called to be spiritual moms, dads, sisters and brothers...so that none of us lacks family to share God's bread with. If you need someone like this, I encourage you to reach out, don't be shy about asking. We are all here to feed and encourage one another in our faith.

Father, I thank you for Your endless supply of Bread. Help me to accept it and share it. In Jesus name, amen.

Thank you friend, for coming and sharing this time with me.....until we meet again.....may the grace of shared bread be yours. Kim

Hello again! I'm happy you're here. Let's go out to the garden and sit, it's so nice out today. I made some lemonade, we can sit in the warm sun and visit.

I'm making a quilt at the moment, each block in it is different and carefully designed. I chose all the colors myself, I cut out each piece with as much precicion as I could. I sew it all by hand to make ure I get the seams exact. It's not fast paced, but I take pleasure in the thought of making something not only beautiful, but usefull too.

God must have felt that way when He designed the world for us, His children. He carefully designed everything with us in mind. He chose each color with joy and fit each mountain, tree, and flower into place. He wanted everything to be exciting, alive with color and music....useful for our every need, and a pleasure to experience.

I am comforted by the thought of God considering us as He made the earth, our home. How He must have smiled and even laughed with delight to think of us enjoying His efforts! He loved us enough to create a wonderful place for us to live.....right down to the smallest details.

Close your eyes a moment, feel the soft breeze on your cheeks....hear the birds singing, the sun warms your back. The smell of spring flowers wafts under your nose....and the sweet odor of the grass being cut. Your lemonade glass is cold in your hand and sweet-tart on your tongue as you take a drink....

All our senses come into play when we experience something....if we truly experience it. God intended us to use them along with the gift of this world of extrordinary delights He created for you and for me. Yet often, we just 'go through the motions' to 'get through another day'.

Try experiencing some of the wonderful things God has created for you. Take a few minutes each day to appreciate His creations....love Him....because He first loved us, enough to care about where we would live.

God bless you with a creation experience today. Love, Kim

I hear God so loudly through your words. I REALLY don't take enough time with Him. One on one. Reading the cinnamon roll story and picturing you and I just sitting there talking and me listening to you share this.

I don't eat breakfast. Maybe I should. It made me want to eat a cinnamon roll with Jesus. And just sit and breathe with Him. Maybe have some hot chocolate too :)

I wonder how much more I would really love Him if I sat down with Him more.

I began having afternoon tea with Him one winter several years ago. I was trying to start a 'cottage' prayer group in my home, and it wound up being me and Him.....which i know the Holy Spirit intended. He desires and longs for a deep, personal relationship with each of us.

It changed my life, and made the coming events (which He knew, and I didn't), bearable, peaceful even......within my spirit.

No meal I eat is ever lonely. No time alone is ever desolate. He is truly my constant companion.

I'm so very glad you're here again! Sit with me and listen to the rain tap on the roof....I love the sounds of rain. Rain, like music, can be loud, or soft...comforting or thundering, light or driving. I find much of God in the rain...He created it with so much thought.

The bible tells us everything is created for His pleasure, so we know He takes pleasure in the rain, whether it is softly showering, or thundering loudly, falling like a torrent, and everything in between. It is music to His ears.

I love to sit on the porch in the summer, and listen to therain patter on leaves, in the grass, and hear it drip off the roofline. It is the sound of life. I take my tea, maybe even my lunch, and listen to the birds talk while they bathe and search for worms among the softened earth.

I even like the thundering, crashing storms.....Psalm 29:3 says: The voice of the LORD is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.

The rest of the Psalm speaks about the mighty voice of God..... verse 7 even say...The voice of the LORD strikes
with flashes of lightning.

I think of this psalm as the thunderstorm psalm......one that captures just a bit of what God's voice might be like. Loud, mighty and powerful at times, Majestic in it's shaking of the earth. At others, low, rumbling quietly in the distance, speaking comfort and peace.

You may think it's odd to imagine hearing God's voice in thunder....I find it beautiful and reassuring to find this comparison in a God-breathed Psalm. I never feel terror or panic in a storm, after all, the same God of the storm is the God of my safety, as He shows in Psalm 91.

I'm happy you're here to share this little bit of God expression today. I love hearing from Him, don't you?

Praying a connection to Him for you everyday....Kim

Hello my dear friend, come in ad fellowship with me and Him!

Isn't it amazing how the Spirit of God wants to share with us and encourage us? I was reminded by a christian sister this morning how it strengthens our faith to gather together and speak faith with each other..

Maybe this is what Hebrews speaks of when it says.....
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.(vv. 10:24-25)

Let's not give up meeting together.....this isn't just for 'church', but for all kinds of 'meeting together'. Let's not give up meeting together for meals with our friends and family.....let's not give up meeting together in bible studies, prayer,.... and here.

This sweet christian sister made me realize, my faith inspiration comes mostly from sisters and brothers right here.....on the Oasis. I come here for comfort, understanding, and encouragement.

I meet together with fellow christians, and am strengthened by it. When we meet, the Spirit of God joins us together, and renews hope in us......that comforts me so much.

In a world that seems to be racing after everything, and reaching nothing, it is soothing to me to sit with Him, every tome I come here....as I meet Him in each of the christians brothers and sisters I fellowship with.

Thank you sister, for reminding me that my faith is strengthened by meeting with people here. In you and everyone else, I see Jesus. My hope receives new life, my spirit is lifted. God bless each of you.

"What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church." 1Corinthians 14:26

Brothers and sisters, we are the church. My faith is strengthened by your sharing Bring a song, a teaching, a scripture, help my understanding. May I in some way strengthen you.

May faith and hope live deep in your spirit, In His Love, Kim
