Wholistic/Alternative Medicine and Therapies

Postby susidivah » Wed Jul 30, 2008 11:21 am

Hi guys *angelbounce*

Someone had mentioned on another thread about homeopathic treatment. It got me to thinking about all the alternative, or natural, medicines and treatments out there today. These meaning not man made synthetic medications, tests or treatments. Some doctors today do prescribe alternative meds/treatments as compliments for treatment.

Example I have is: my primary care physician is Indian. She is pretty rote on alternative treatments. She has prescribed massage therapy for me in the past when I was having anxiety and blood pressure problems. I also know peeps whose doctors have oked certain herbs and food remedies in conjunction with traditional medications and treatment. As always the important thing is to consult with your doctor prior to adding anything to your treatment.

Anyone else have examples of wholistic or alternative medicine and therapies?

GBU all and to good health!

Cool Susi. I use homeopathics for everything almost. From splinters to bleeding.
My son was hit in the eye with a waterballoon. Because of the pain I gave him Arnica Montana. The pain was gone in just a few minutes and a trip to the doctor revealed bleeding in the inner eye. The bleeding had stopped before we got to the doc and there was nothing to worry about.

I love homeopathics because you can take them even if you are taking medications. You can not over dose on them. They are cheaper than other medications and not at all dangerous. I like herbs but they can interfer with meds and can cause major problems if you aren't careful.

I take Ignatia amara when I have insomnia. I'm amazed at how I settle down and fall asleep. Love it!

I have studied, herbs and other natural remedies including foods and how the body systems work for many years.
There are dangers if you do not know what you are doing. Take the Ephedrine scare and the people who died using products that contained it, I am a firm believer that one should not venture down this road w/o either being educated, seeking an education and/or consulting with a well educated person in the field.

Thanks for all your posts guys... I'll be honest I hesitated at starting this thread cuz there are soooo many views as to the pros and cons of natural medicines. As well as the cultural and religious beliefs that factor in. I appreciate Ditto's input as to the importance of educating yourself through someone who has the knowledge. As I mentioned some doctors are educated and open to discussing the alternatives, others tho are not for reasons including what Ditto mentioned (the example about the Ephedrine)...

Of course, Jesus is our BEST and ETERNAL medicine... so consult and prayer though Him in addition will always help as well :)
