Down the Road
Chapter Twenty-Five

"What was the fight about?" she asked when they broke apart. Jeff wiped tears from her face.

"Tim was listening to us talking and then he decided that he would say he was going to be raising our baby and you'd be crying on his shoulder." Jeff said.

"You're kidding?" she said shocked.

"No Jon and Curtis had to pull me off of him." He said.

"I'm sorry Jeff." She said kissing him.

"Why you didn't do it." He said kissing her back.

They went back downstairs, Jeff stopped to talk to Jon, and Kaye Leigh headed out the door.

"Kaye Leigh where are you going?" Jeff yelled.

"I'll be back I need to take care of something." She said.

"Kaye Leigh leave it alone." Jeff said.

When she got to the stable Tim was in there, he turned around when he heard her and smiled.

"What's up Kaye Leigh?" he said. Kaye Leigh pushed him.

"What do you think you're doing?" Kaye Leigh yelled. "Why would you tell my husband that you're going to raise his baby, especially after I have done nothing but defend you?"

"He's leaving you Kaye Leigh, he told the guys that." He said. "He's going to leave you alone with a baby, I want to be more than friends with you Kaye Leigh you must know that."

Kaye Leigh shook her head.

"Tim, you've got the wrong idea and I am sorry if I misled you in anyway, but we will never be anything other than friends." She said. Tim started walking towards her, she was not afraid she did not think he would do anything to her.

"I love my husband even if we are having problems right now. If things don't work out Tim, he will still be the only man I will ever love again." She told him. He grabbed her arms.

"You don't love him Kaye Leigh and he certainly doesn't love you!" he yelled shaking her.

"Tim you're hurting me." Kaye Leigh said.

"I'll make up for it Kaye Leigh we will have a lifetime together." He said.

"Let go of me Tim!" she yelled.

Jeff, Jon, and Curtis were walking out to the stable to see where Kaye Leigh went to when they heard her yell.

"Someone help me!" They ran to the stable. Tim had slapped Kaye Leigh and said

"You need to keep quiet." He said.

"You need to get your hands off of her now." Jeff yelled. Tim looked up and seen the guys, he pushed her away from him and ran out of the stable. Jeff caught her before she fell.

"Are you ok?" Jeff asked her gently.

"Yes thank you." She said nodding. "I didn't realize that he thought any of that." She sat down on some hay and put her hands in her head.

"You don't want to see the bad in anyone if you can help it." Jon said. Jeff sat down next to her and she leaned against him.

"Guys I just want to say I'm really sorry for this morning and I hope you can all forgive me." She said.

"Of course we forgive you, just don't let it happen again." Jon said laughing.

"You're pregnant being moody is to be expected." Becki said.

"I thought that was just because she was a woman." Curtis said. The guys laughed.

"We still love you." Jon said kissing her cheek. "I need to be getting home. The boys can stay with me tonight."

"I want to stop and see Dan." Kaye Leigh said.

"I'm going to take Becki out so I will drop her off later." Curtis said.

"Ok, just drop her off at my place; they can stay until the stuff gets delivered." Jeff said.

Everyone left.

"It's just the two of us tonight, the kids are gone, Becki won't be back until later, want to go to dinner and rent a movie?" Jeff asked.

"Sure my treat, but I need to talk to Dan first." Kaye Leigh said.

"Let's go then." He said.

Kaye Leigh was nervous when they pulled into Jon's. They went inside.

"Mom what happened to your face?" Josh said looking at her.

"Did you and Dad get into a fight?" Dan said looking at his dad. Jeff and Jon laughed.

"No we didn't get into a fight." She said smiling.

"Dan can I talk to you outside please." He nodded.

They went outside.

"Dan, I am so sorry about this morning. I love you so much and I am so proud to be your mom." She said, tears were falling down her face. "I was angry this morning and I never should have taken it out on you and I hope that you can forgive me, and I hope that you realize I will always love you and I will always be your mom." Dan came over and hugged her.

"I forgive you mom and I love you too." He said. She cried harder. Dan had tears in his eyes too.

They went back inside.

"Is everything ok with you two?" Jon asked.

"Yes." Dan said hugging Kaye Leigh again. "I love you mom."

"I love you too." She said. "Ok I need to take your mom to eat; she hasn't had anything all day." Jeff said.

"Really? Kaye Leigh you need to eat." Jon said seriously. Kaye Leigh laughed.

"Yes dad." She said kissing his cheek. "You boys behave yourselves."

They pulled into the restaurant; Jeff opened the door for Kaye Leigh and held her hand as they walked inside. They were shown to a quiet table in the corner.

"Thanks for your help again today Jeff." Kaye Leigh said. "I'm really sorry about Tim."

"You're welcome and don't worry about him, it's over and done." He said.

"Can I get you something to drink?" a waitress asked.

"Tea for me please." Kaye Leigh said.

"Same here thanks." Jeff said.

Morgan watched as they came in together, she watched the waitress seat them and she vowed that they would not have a peaceful evening.

"Could you send that man over there a drink from me?" She asked pointing to Jeff.

"Sure." The waitress said. Morgan sat back to watch the trouble begin.

"How are you feeling Kaye Leigh?" he asked.

"Pretty good still getting sick in the mornings as you witnessed." She said laughing. Jeff loved to hear her laugh, he was watching her. "If I do get sick though it doesn't last too long." She finished.

"Good hopefully it will end soon, are you going to set up an appointment soon?" he asked.

"Yes, but I would like you to be there with me Jeff, I went through my other two pregnancies alone and I would really like you to be there." She said looking at him.

"I'd like that too, just tell when and where." He said smiling.

"This is from the lady over there at that table." The waitress said setting a drink down in front of Jeff. Kaye Leigh looked over and saw Morgan.

"Tell her I'm not interested." Jeff said giving her the drink back.

"Ok." The waitress said.

When she left, Jeff said, "I'm sorry Kaye Leigh." Kaye Leigh shook her head.

"It's ok Jeff." She said taking his hand.

"Do you want to leave?" Jeff asked.

"No not at all, I'm not letting her get to me." She told him. "I'll be back." He said getting up.

"Don't hit her like I did, you don't want to end up in jail." Kaye Leigh said. He smiled at her.

"He said he's not interested." The waitress told Morgan.

"We'll just see about that." She said. "Thanks though."

"You're welcome." The waitress replied and left. Jeff sat down, she was surprised.

"Why are you doing this?" He asked her.

"Doing what darling?" she asked.

"Don't call me that. Why are you trying to destroy my marriage?" he said.

"You're doing it Jeff, you come to me, and you're the one that wants me." She said.

"Why don't you try telling the truth for a change, it's a very powerful thing." He told her.

"You're truth or mine Jeff?" she asked. Jeff shook his head.

"You won't win this game you're playing Morgan and if you do, you will wish that you never heard of me by the time I am through." He said as he left.

"So what news did she have today?" Kaye Leigh asked when he got back.

"Same thing, nothing new." Jeff said. Kaye Leigh laughed.

"How did we ever get to this point?" she asked.

"There's no point in placing blame, until I can prove those pictures aren't real you believe I had an affair." He said.

"Let's go." She said.

Kaye Leigh did not say anything on the way to get a movie or on the way to Jeff's place.

"I'll get the movie set up." Jeff said.

"I'm going to go change." She said. Jeff had hoped this night would have gone differently but Morgan ruined it.

Kaye Leigh came out with Jeff's shirt on again.

"Sorry, but I left everything I bought back at the house." She said.

"That's fine." He said laughing.

"What's so funny?" she said looking down at herself.

"Nothing, I just like it when you wear my shirts." He said. She smiled.

They sat down on the couch. While the previews were playing, Jeff asked. "Did you get everything you wanted today when you went shopping?"

"I think so." She replied.

"Good, call me when they deliver it Monday and I will come and help move it, don't try to move anything yourself." He said. Kaye Leigh laughed.

"You sound like Jon." She said.

Jeff was looking at her. "Kaye Leigh I want to ask you something and I want the truth no matter what." He said.

"I'll always tell you the truth Jeff." She replied. He smiled.

"I want to know deep down in your heart do you believe I had an affair?" he said looking at her.

Kaye Leigh could feel the tears coming again, she was sick of crying.

"I would love to say that I believe you Jeff, but I've seen the pictures and I know that they are you." She said tears falling again. He smiled a sad smile.

"I was hoping that you would say that you believed in me." He said. Kaye Leigh looked at him, got up, went into the bedroom, shut the door, and locked it.

Jeff stopped the movie and waited a few minutes. "Kaye Leigh come out here please." Jeff said through the door. After a couple more minutes, the door opened. He pulled her into his arms and held her. "I'm going to prove it Kaye Leigh; I love you too much to let you go without a fight." He said. He lifted her face so that she would look at him, and wiped the tears away. "I know you love me Kaye Leigh and I haven't given up on us and I never will no matter what." He said kissing her gently.

They sat back down and started the movie again; Kaye Leigh sat next to him and leaned her head on his shoulder. Jeff took her hand in his. Becki came in just as the movie was ending and stopped long enough to say good night then went to bed.

"Jeff I know that the kids aren't here, but could I still sleep with you?" Kaye Leigh asked as she took some dishes into the kitchen.

"Of course you can if you want." He said.

Jeff was already in bed by the time she got into the room, she shut the door, turned off the light, and got into bed.

"Night Kaye Leigh." Jeff said.

"Good night Jeff." She said. They laid there for about half an hour when she said

"Jeff will you please hold me?" He did not say a word, just wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer, she laid her head on his chest.

Finally, she sat up, turned to him, put her hands on his chest, leaned down, and kissed him.

"Kaye Leigh?" he said looking at her.

"Please Jeff." She said looking into his eyes.

He put his arms around her and pulled her into a deep kiss.

"I love you Jeff." She said.

Jeff loved her so much, he wanted to be with her until his last breath, and he needed to get this mess straightened out and them back together in their own home. He was very gentle with her, but still let her know just how much he loved her. The feel of her next to him had been driving him crazy, he missed her so much. She fell asleep in his arms clinging to him; he had no doubt that Kaye Leigh still loved him.
