THE CRUCIFIXION

Most believe that it was Good Friday when our Lord died for our sins. But the TRUTH is that it was on Thursday and that Religious leaders changed the day to accommodate their schedules.

MATTHEW 27:32-56

MARK 15:21-41

LUKE 23:26-49

JOHN 19:17-37

You may have heard before that Jesus was the Lamb of God. What exactly does this mean? Well, since way back in Abel’s day, a lamb without blemish was a very pleasing gift (sacrifice) to God. Since there weren’t enough sheep in the all the world to atone for the sins of man, God provided the lamb for us, which is Jesus, as the sacrifice to atone for our sins once for all. Have you ever heard of such a generous gift? Also, did you know that Jesus was really crucified on Thursday, not on Good Friday?

Let's look a little deeper into these two things and do a little bit of review.

The feasts and celebrations that the Israelites were told by God to honor each year were in fact ... SHADOWS of things to come (Colossians 2:16-17). In other words, God created these days of celebration as a sign of future events that would occur at that specific time of year. Many awesome events have occurred on these days just as predicted and there are more to come. There is one in particular that I want to share with you today. It is the "Passover" (Leviticus 23:5). You've probably heard of the story of the great Exodus from Egypt with Moses (Book of Exodus). After God plagued the Egyptians many times for not allowing His people to be set free, He had one more plague that would prove to do the trick. Moses told the Jewish people that an angel of Death would come and kill all the firstborn of Egypt.

In order to protect their children, they were to place LAMB'S BLOOD on their homes and the angel of Death would PASS OVER them. They were to bring an UNBLEMISHED LAMB on the 10th day of the 1st month of the Jewish calendar and keep this LAMB for four days. Keep it for 4 days. Then on the 14th day of the month.

Exodus 12:3-6
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

The Israelites would KILL THE LAMB and place the blood on their HOMES to SAVE THEMSELVES. They were to do this every year. THIS CELEBRATION WAS A SHADOW OF AN EVENT TO COME ... JESUS' DEATH. Jesus was the Lamb without sin. He came into Jerusalem on the 10th day of the 1st month (Palm Sunday) and was with the people for four days. He was killed by the Jewish people's choice on the 14th day of the month just as the Jewish people were celebrating PASSOVER. Little did they know that HIS BLOOD, like the lamb's was for them many years ago, IS NOW THE SAVING GRACE.

There is another Jewish celebration called "First Fruits" which is 3 days after Passover. The people would offer a HE lamb without blemish as a sacrifice to God (Leviticus 23:10-14). THIS CELEBRATION WAS A SHADOW OF AN EVENT TO COME ... JESUS' RESURRECTION. Three days after Jesus, the Lamb without blemish was killed, He was resurrected on Sunday morning as our Sacrifice. GOD USED JESUS AS THAT HE LAMB BECAUSE THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH SHEEP IN ALL THE WORLD TO ATONE FOR THE SINS. This is another important note: It is written that Jesus would be resurrected 3 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS AFTER HE WAS CRUCIFIED. Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday AND WAS "KEPT" FOR 4 DAYS. Now Let's do a little math ... If Jesus was dead for 3 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS AND RESURRECTED ON SUNDAY MORNING, this reveals that His death occurred on THURSDAY, NOT "GOOD FRIDAY" ...

Then why do we call it Good Friday? Research proves that a change was made to accommodate the schedules of those MEN who made the changes. TSK TSK. You can find out more about the Feast Celebration Shadow Of Things To Come in our End Times section in the FEAST SHADOWS Study. You will find the Holy Spirit came to the Christians in the Upper Room on a Feast Celebration day as well.

We have created a little calendar for you to do the math on the Good Thursday TRUTH.

The sacrificial lamb for Passover was KILLED IT ON THE 14TH DAY ... As was Jesus.

Now, on with the study. We’re continuing now, as they led Jesus away from Pontius Pilate to crucify Him. Two others were led with Jesus also to be put to death, who were convicted as criminals. As they led Him away, they compelled a man named Simon of Cyrene to carry the cross behind Jesus. Many people followed Him and the women grieved and cried.

Jesus turned to them and said, Daughters of Jerusalem don’t cry for me, but cry for yourselves and for your children because the days are coming when they’ll say, Blessed are those who never bare children. Then they’ll start to say to the mountains, Fall on us, and to the hills, Cover us. Because if they do these things in a green tree, what will be done in the dry? Jesus was talking about the end of time, as you can read also in the book of Revelation 6:16-17, Ezekiel 20:47, and I Peter 4:17.

When they came to a place on the hill of Calvary called in Hebrew, Golgotha, which means, the place of a skull, they gave Jesus vinegar to drink that was mingled with gall (a bitter substance), and when He tasted it, He wouldn’t drink any more (Psalm 69:21).

And there, at the third hour of the day (9:00 a.m.), they crucified Jesus as the scripture foretold (Psalm 22:16). They nailed His precious wrists and feet to a cross and lifted Him up, and the two thieves with Him, one on each side, with Jesus in the midst. The prophecy was fulfilled, written in Isaiah 53:12, that He would be counted as a transgressor. Pilate had written an engraving of Jesus’ accusation to set up over His head that read:

THE KING OF THE JEWS

The chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Don’t write, The King of the Jews; but that He said, I am the King of the Jews. Tsk, tsk, tsk, their jealousy still haunting them. Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written.

Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. The soldiers that crucified Jesus, took His garments, and tore them into four parts so each soldier could take a part. His coat had no seam, woven from the top throughout, so they said, Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, fulfilling the scripture in Psalm 22:18.

The soldiers sat down and watched Him there, and the people stood by watching. Those who passed by reviled Him, wagging their heads and the chief priests, with the elders and the scribes mocked along with them, saying, He saved others, let Him save Himself if He’s Christ, the chosen one of God. You that destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself. If He’s the Son of God, the King of Israel, let Him come down from the cross and we’ll believe Him. He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He’ll have Him, because He said, I am the Son of God. Little did these fellas know that when they made those statements ... They too were fulfilling prophecy.

PSALM 22:7-8
All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

One of the thieves which were crucified with Him said, If you’re the Christ, save yourself and us. But the other rebuked him, saying, Don’t you fear God, being that you’re in the same condemnation? We deserve our punishment, but this man has done nothing wrong. He said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom. Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, Today, you will be with me in PARADISE.

Know this TRUTH ... Paradise is NOT Heaven. Jesus told the man that he would be with Jesus in Paradise THAT DAY. Jesus was not in Heaven that day and in fact would not be taken to Heaven for 40 days (Acts 1:3-11). He was in ABRAHAM‘S BOSOM. The path one takes when they die is that they are taken to Abraham's Bosom (Luke 16:19-31). Jesus even preached to those in Hell (1Peter 3:18-22). They are not lifted to heaven until the End Times and at Judgment day (Revelation 9:6-11 & Revelation 20:11-15).

Let's get back to the study, shall we? ... By the Cross of Jesus stood His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother and His Apostle, John, standing near, He said to His mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then He said to John, Behold thy mother! And from that hour, John took her into His home.

When the sixth hour (noon) had come, there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.). Then Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? Jesus said ... My God, my God, why have you forsaken me ... Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, Listen, He’s calling for Elijah.

Now, do not misunderstand as many have, and think for one second that Jesus was saying that God had turned away from Him. Nothing could be further from the TRUTH. Jesus was simply quoting scripture once again, as He did so many times before, to show that it was being fulfilled. He was directing those present and us today to prophecy in Psalm 22 which starts out with ... the words my God my God, why hast thou forsaken me.

Check out this awesome study ... My God, my God, why have you forsaken me

If you read Psalm 22, the Psalm which Jesus was quoting, you’ll find that there are 9 verses of prophecy in that one Psalm foretelling Jesus Death. Jesus was in fact, saying once and for all, I am He, who all those things were written about!

After that, Jesus, knowing that all things were now complete, said, I thirst. Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, put it on a reed and gave Him to drink. The others said, Let Him be. Let’s see whether Elijah will come to save Him.

When Jesus received the vinegar, He said, It is finished. Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit (Psalm 31:5). And when He had cried again with a loud voice, He bowed His head and died. As He gave up the ghost (the spirit), the sun was darkened, and the veil of the Temple was torn in half from the top to the bottom, the earth did quake, and the rocks split. The graves were opened and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves after His resurrection, and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. Now, I don’t know about you, but this is an amazing thing here, and you don’t hear about it much, but just think about this. Can you imagine, the graves opening and the past saints wandering around! That is simply incredible!

Now, when the centurion, and those who were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake and all the things that happened, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. All His acquaintances, and the women who ministered to Him and followed Him from Galilee, stood in the distance watching.

Because it was the preparation (the day before Sabbath), and the bodies shouldn’t remain on the cross on the Sabbath day, Pilate advised that their legs be broken (because they hadn’t died yet) and for them to be taken away. This confirms again that Jesus was crucified and died on Thursday, because the Sabbath is from Friday night to Saturday night, so the day before the Sabbath, would have to be Thursday.

The soldiers came and broke the legs of the two who were crucified with Him, but when they came to Jesus, and saw that He was already dead, they didn’t break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, and out of the wound came blood and water (I John 5:8). These things were done so that yet more scripture would be fulfilled, Psalm 34:20, Zechariah 12:10 and Zechariah 13:6.
