MARRIAGE SUPPER OF THE LAMB
What
is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb?
I
would like to look at a few Parables that Jesus shared and
find out how they relate to our Christian walk today and the
Marriage Supper of the Lamb …
|
Matthew
22:1-7
And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by
parables, and said, The KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is like unto
a certain king, which made a MARRIAGE FOR HIS SON, And
sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden
to the wedding: and they would NOT come. Again, he
sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are
bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and
my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come
unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and
went their ways, one to his farm, another to his
merchandise: And the remnant took his servants,
and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when
the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent
forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and
burned up their city. |
A
parable is a story which uses various symbols. To discern a
parable, one must discern the symbols. So the symbol of the
King represents God. The servants are the prophets of the
past in the Bible. The Marriage of the Son is the Marriage
Supper of the Lamb. Jesus is the Son. God sent prophets to
invite the people to come to this wedding but they chose not
to because they were TOO BUSY. They even killed the prophets
as the Bible also reveals. The city burned up was Jerusalem
in 587 BC. Jesus has just revealed that GOD had the King of
Babylon destroy the city for what they did to His servants,
the prophets over the years.
Let’s
see what else Jesus said …
|
Matthew 22:8-14
Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is
ready, but THEY WHICH WERE BIDDEN WERE NOT WORTHY. Go
ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye
shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants
went out into the highways, and gathered together all
as many as they found, both BAD AND GOOD: and the
wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king
came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which
had not on a WEDDING GARMENT: And he saith unto him,
Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding
garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to
the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him
away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be
weeping and gnashing of teeth. For MANY ARE CALLED BUT
FEW ARE CHOSEN
|
The
Jewish people were found unworthy (Tho they too now have an
opportunity to receive the GRACE that comes only by
believing in Jesus) The people that are now invited are the
Gentiles (Nations other than Israel) and it is clear both
good and BAD represents SINNERS now having opportunity at
Grace by the blood of Jesus.
The
wedding garment … Represents being PREPARED.
The
next parable will explain this a lil better. It is in
Matthew Chapter 25.
|
Matthew 25:1-12
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto
ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to
meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and
five were foolish. They that were foolish took their
lamps, and took no OIL with them: But the wise took
OIL in their vessels with their lamps. While the
bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And
at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the
bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all
those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the
foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for
our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying,
Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but
go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for
yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom
came; and they that were ready went in with him to the
marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also
the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But
he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I KNOW
YOU NOT.
|
Note
that like in the other parable of Jesus it speaks of a
wedding. (Bridegroom) This is another parable speaking of
being prepared for this Spiritual wedding. As Jesus said
right after this parable in verse 13 … WATCH therefore, for
ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man
cometh.
Jesus then began to share
another parable …
|
Matthew
25:14-15
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man
traveling into a far country, who called his own
servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto
one he gave five talents, to another two, and to
another one; to every man according to his several
ability; and straightway took his journey.
|
Jesus
is the traveling man. The journey He took is this time He
has been gone from when He rose to Heaven until His Return.
The talents (money) represent gifts we have received from
the Holy Ghost to reach and teach others as to glorify God.
The Parable continues …
|
Matthew 25:16-18
Then he that had received the five talents went
and traded with the same, and made them other five
talents. And likewise he that had received two, he
also gained other two. But he that had received one
went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's
money.
|
So
these three individuals in Jesus’ parable went and INVESTED
the talents they were given and brought in MORE. But more
what?
|
Matthew 25:19-23
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh,
and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received
five talents came and brought other five talents,
saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents:
behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and
faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few
things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter
thou into the joy of thy lord. He also that had
received two talents came and said, Lord, thou
deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained
two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him,
Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been
faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler
over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
|
So we
see the ones who invested their talents were rewarded cuz
they brought in more fruit by their efforts. But what became
of the one who chose to go hide what he received?
Let’s go see …
|
Matthew 25:24-30
Then he which had received the one talent came and
said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man,
reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where
thou hast not strawed: And I was afraid, and went and
hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that
is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou
wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap
where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the
exchangers, and then at my coming I should have
received mine own with usury. Take therefore the
talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten
talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given,
and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath
not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And
cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness:
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
|
OUCH …
The person who received the talents and did nothing with
them but bury them was deemed an unprofitable servant.
So
what is Jesus telling us in this parable?
He is
talking about reaching for lost souls. Sharing the Spirit of
TRUTH by spreading the Word of God.
By
having Love and compassion for others ...
|
Hebrews 13:1-3
Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to
entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained
angels unawares. Remember them that are in bonds, as
bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as
being yourselves also in the body |
Jesus continues …
|
Matthew 25:31-34
When the Son of man shall come in his glory,
and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit
upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be
gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one
from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from
the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right
hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King
say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of
my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from
the foundation of the world: |
Many
call this the great sheep and goat judgment. Jesus will
separate those who were profitable servants from
unprofitable servants … Listen to what Jesus shares about
what a profitable servant is like.
|
Matthew 25:35-40
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I
was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger,
and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was
sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came
unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying,
Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or
thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a
stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed
thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came
unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto
them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done
it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have
done it unto me. |
So we
see that Jesus is referring to showing brotherly love. To
LOVE ONE ANOTHER and to treat those you encounter as if it
was Jesus cuz what you do to them … You do to HIM. But what
of the unprofitable servant?
|
Matthew 25:41-46
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand,
Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an
hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye
gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not
in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison,
and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer
him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or
athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in
prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he
answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch
as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did
it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting
punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. |
AGAIN
… Jesus is not fond of those who do not “pay it forward” …
That means those who receive LOVE, FORGIVENESS and GRACE but
do not provide the same for others. He does not believe that
we should receive gifts and do nothing with them. He does
not believe we should believe ourselves to be saved and see
a sinner or a lost or troubled soul and say ewwwwwwwwww.
He
believes we should REACH for them as He did us
IF
today was the last day for you …
Are you going to be considered a profitable servant?
We
must NEVER allow ourselves to become complacent or doubt His
return or suggest that we are not to know when He returns so
what does it matter. I mean … Anyone could die tomorrow in a
variety of ways and my friends … THAT is the last day for
that soul. There will be no second chance then. So we should
live each day as if it is our last. Let’s look at some other
things Jesus shared about this.
|
Matthew 24:36-39
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the
angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days
of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of
man be. For as in the days that were before the flood
they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in
marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
And knew not until the flood came, and took them all
away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
|
What
does Jesus mean by His return being compared to the Great
flood of Noah’s time? He means that people will be
complacent and satisfied ... Having no problem following the
trends of man's world. Everything will APPEAR normal.
Unprepared for what is coming.
|
Matthew 24:40-51
Then shall two be in the field; the one shall
be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be
grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the
other left. WATCH therefore: for ye know not what hour
your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the
goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief
would come, he would have watched, and would not have
suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye
also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the
Son of man cometh. Who then is a faithful and wise
servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his
household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is
that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find
so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make
him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil
servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his
coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants,
and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of
that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not
for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And
shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion
with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and
gnashing of teeth. |
While
Jesus was sharing these Parables … Some of the Religious
leaders at the time tried to question Jesus to try and
“entangle Him in His talk” … At one point, the Sadducees
which do not believe in the resurrection … Asked him a
question.
|
Matthew 22:24-28
Saying, Master, Moses
said, If a man die, having no children, his brother
shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his
brother. Now there were with us seven brethren: and
the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and,
having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the
seventh. And last of all the woman died also.
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be
of the seven? for they all had her. |
See in
Jewish customs, if a man was married and he died, his
brother had to marry the wife of the dead brother. So they
wanted to see what Jesus would say in this hypothetical
scenario created cuz they did not believe in the
Resurrection of souls. Here is what Jesus responded …
|
Matthew 22:29-32
Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err,
not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. For
in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given
in marriage, but are as the ANGELS of God in heaven.
But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye
not read that which was spoken unto you by God,
saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead,
but of the living. |
Jesus said that these
Religious leaders did not comprehend the Scriptures
correctly (Who would of thought that could happen, huh?)
Jesus said when one soul, of a married couple dies ... The
marriage ends.
Let that be the reason
these words are spoken ... TILL DEATH DO US PART.
So all of those
stories which depict this mental image of showing up in
Heaven and souls being reunited with their husband or wife
and the marriage continues in some lil house with a white
picket fence ... JESUS MADE IT CLEAR ... In Heaven there
are no marriages. We become as the Angels and serve the
LORD. We become the BRIDE of Christ.
So we see that we are
to be preparing ourselves for this Spiritual wedding. We are
ENGAGED to Jesus and preparing to become His bride. We are
told by Jesus that those who are profitable servants while
on Earth, are going to become as the Angels of God. We will
receive white linen to wear and become as SAINTS.
|
Revelation 19:7-9
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him:
for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife
hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that
she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white:
for the fine linen is the righteousness of SAINTS. And
he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are
called unto the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. And he
saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
