First Book of Kings in the Bible Stories

The first half of The First Book of the Kings tells of the life of king Solomon the son of David. Under his reign, Israel enjoys a time of peace and Solomon's great wisdom and endeavors, including the magnificence of the temple that he builds in Jerusalem, bring him worldwide fame and respect.

But Solomon's devotion to God weakens in his later years, as pagan wives and concubines turn his heart away. As a result, the king with the divided heart leaves behind a divided kingdom ... Israel and Judah. For the next century, the first Book of the Kings tells about the history of two sets of kings and two nations of disobedient people who are growing apathetic to God's prophets and sovereignty.
