Rebellion Against God Warning

Great to have you here for more Daily Bread. Let's continue our study of Deuteronomy and this address that Moses is giving to the children of Israel, shall we?

Moses makes no bones about telling Rebellious People and sins Bible Truth. In this chapter, his message is, Make no mistake ... God didn't bring you to possess this great Promised Land because of your righteousness, but because of the wickedness of the nations that you are driving out.

Let's look back for a moment to the book of Genesis, when God was telling Abraham in a vision about when his descendants would be right where they are now in our story:

Genesis 15:13-16

13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

We'll be talking about this Rebellious People and sins Bible story again in a later chapter in our study but for now let us discuss the Rebellion Against God Dangers.

So, understand this, Moses reiterates, It's not your righteousness that has earned you this land, because you are a stiffnecked (rebellious) people. Remember, and never forget how you were disobedient from the day you left Egypt until now.

Rebellion Against God Examples

Then Moses gives examples of Rebellious People Bible events, beginning with the story of when he went up into the mountain to receive the commandments from God, and the children of Israel made themselves a golden calf to worship while he was gone. (If you like to cross reference things in the Bible, this was from Exodus, Chapter 32.)

Rebellion Against God Punishments

Moses also mentions a few other times that Israel murmured in the wilderness, including the first time God told them to go up and possess the Land of Promise, but they didn't believe in the Lord's strength to help them against the Amalekites and the Canaanites, so they rebelled. The Rebellious People point of interest is ... Their rebellion cost that generation the privilege of entering the Promised Land and their children 40 years of wandering in the wilderness being tested and humbled:

Numbers 14:33

And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcasses be wasted in the wilderness.

Here is perfect evidence of the integrity of a man like Moses. He said:

Deuteronomy 9:24

Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

Rebellion Against God Summary

Yet in both of these Rebellious People Bible stories, he fell down and he fasted and prayed before the Lord for forty days and forty nights each time, that the Lord wouldn't destroy His chosen people. Why? Because it would bring the LORD glory to bring them into the land that He promised, and Moses knew that bringing glory to the Lord was what life is all about.

We began this chapter's Rebellious People and sins Bible study by talking about how Moses told the children of Israel that God didn't bring them to possess the Promised Land because of their own righteousness, and it's important that we never forget in our own lives that the blessings that are bestowed upon us aren't because of our own righteousness either ... But God's.

More great stories await you ... Until then, take good care, and God bless.
