Biblical Belief Bible Verses Explained
Christian Belief in the Bible Quest

Great to be back with you again with more Daily Bread to share! Now that Paul has shown the Hebrews how Jesus is above Angels, he moves on to showing them that Christ is to be more highly esteemed than Moses. The Hebrews had the ultimate respect for Moses, through whom God gave them the law, but Paul tries to get them to understand that respect for Jesus is even more deserved because through Jesus, God gave them Grace.

Paul tells them to think of Jesus as the High Priest of their faith, who was faithful to God, like Moses was.

Hungry for a little Daily Bread Crumb? We had this one before, but let's refresh our memories. What is this "house" that Paul is talking about? Many times in the Bible, the word house is referring to a family including ancestors, descendants, and kindred.

Paul goes a step further with this. He explains that Jesus deserves more glory than Moses because the builder of the house has more honor than the house itself. And since Jesus being a part of the Trinity (part of God) is the builder (of all things), He should get your respect.

Moses was a faithful servant working in God's house, but he was only a servant appointed to demonstrate things that would happen in the future. But Christ, God's faithful Son, is in total control of God's house. And we Christians are God's house ... He lives in us, if we keep up our faith, joy and trust in Him firm to the end.

Remember at the beginning of the last chapter, Paul told the Hebrews, you shouldn't forget the things you heard, or you may drift away from them. They may slip away from your memory. Now he urges them, Learn from your ancestors mistakes. He reminds them of a Psalm that David wrote, encouraging them to open their hearts and listen for God's voice today. Recognize His ways today.

You know Paul by now, how passionate he is about the scriptures. You can almost picture him writing this to his fellow Hebrews ... probably wanting to grab them by the collars and shake them a little bit because it is so plain in front of their faces. So he says, Didn't you hear what the Holy Spirit said ... You can hear His voice Today ... If you will only listen. This is the Psalm he was quoting in Verse 7-11:

Psalms 95:7-11

7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear His voice,
8 Harden not your heart [don't rebel], as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.
10 Forty years long was I grieved [angry] with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err [go astray] in their heart, and they have not known my ways:
11 Unto whom I sware in my wrath [anger] that they should not enter into my rest.

Christian Belief in the Bible Quotes

What is His rest? Paul goes into explaining that in the next chapter, but let's look at something else from this scripture. Can you feel the emotion in God's words here? There are different kinds of grief, and this is the grief of a broken heart. It's similar to the way He felt with people just before He sent the great flood. Disappointment, regret, sadness. Imagine being David getting this message from the Holy Spirit: I showed them my might and my power and my magnificence for forty years, and they still don't even know me.

In Paul's tender heart, even though he is the Apostle to the Gentiles, the Hebrews are his relatives. He wants salvation and joy for them too. So he tells them, listen closely, be careful that none of you allows yourself to have an evil heart of unbelief and turns away from the living God. But encourage each another daily,
while there is still time so none of you becomes smitten by the deceitfulness of sin. And keep the same kind of enthusiasm for your Faith that you had when it was new.

Biblical Belief Bible Verses and You
Christian Belief in the Bible Today

Generally, when something is new to people, they're excited about it, they're passionate, they're determined. But as time goes on, their interest begins to wane. Paul says, Don't let that happen. Don't fizzle out. Stay enthusiastic. Keep your confidence, your boldness, your spirit.

Hebrews 3:15-19

15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Biblical Belief Bible Verses Summary
Christian Belief in the Bible Conclusion

In the days of the Old Testament, those who wouldn't listen to the Word that was delivered by Moses, were destroyed in the wilderness. They didn't believe in the Promised Land, so they weren't allowed to enter in. In today's world, the days of the New Testament, the Word was delivered by Jesus Himself as Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1 and 1:14) ... The Promised Land is now everlasting life with Him. How do you get in? Belief in Him, belief in the promise of eternal life through salvation by His death!

In our next study, we'll open up Chapter 4 of Paul's letter to the Hebrews and find out more about entering into God's rest, right here at Daily Bread. Don't miss it!
