Biblical Rules & The Golden Rules in the Bible Facts
Thanks for joining us today at Daily Bread! In our study today, Paul goes a step further in his instruction about not judging other believers, and encourages us to be selfless and hospitable, further urging us to put others above ourselves. Remember, the Golden Rule wasn't something that the public school system invented. It came from Jesus. (But don't tell them that, or they may outlaw it.)
Jesus Gave Us the Golden Rule
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Luke 6:31
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
Paul explains that the strong should bear the burdens of the weak, and not just fend for ourselves, but support and edify our neighbors. Christ did the same. Paul also gives us scripture that said He would do this:
The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.

Biblical Rules or the Golden Rules in the Bible Blessing
For a few verses Paul explains how the scriptures were written to teach us to be Christ-like and by the scriptures, gain hope and strength to practice the same kind of selflessness that Jesus lived by.
Also, Paul points out that Jesus wants us to all glorify God together, in unity. Jesus confirmed the promises made to Israel, but also, sacrificed Himself for the Gentiles to obtain and glorify God for His mercy. The scriptures also comfort us with this Truth as well:
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen [Gentiles], and sing praises unto thy name.
And again He said, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with His people:
Rejoice, O ye nations [Gentiles], with His people:
And again:
O praise the LORD, all ye nations [Gentiles]: praise Him, all ye people.
And again, Isaiah said:
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

Paul continues:
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
This is the second time now in this letter that Paul has referred to hope and the Holy Ghost in the same sentence. There's a significant connection between them. The Holy Ghost is our Comforter, who Jesus sent to get us through until He returns. Our hope, our longing, our cause, and the promise of God is that Jesus will return and we will live with Him forever glorifying God. So you can see how the power of the Holy Ghost is what gives us our hope, which is what we live for. Cool, huh?
Next Paul practices what he preaches, edifying the Romans by telling them that (though he has never met them personally) he knows they are good-hearted people and can teach each other, keep each other on the right path.
So, the Romans, of course, knew who Jesus was, and Paul was really looking forward to teaching them all he knew about Him. Paul was special, after all, he was chosen by the Grace of Jesus to be the Apostle to the Gentiles, spreading the Gospel to them, bringing them to God. They were Paul's "offering" or "living sacrifice" made Holy by the Holy Ghost.
18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things
which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient,
by word and deed,
19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the
Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto
Illyricum, I have fully preached the Gospel of Christ.
20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the Gospel, not where
Christ was named [not where the Gospel had already been preached],
lest I should build upon another man's foundation [so I wouldn't take
another man's credit]:
21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of,
they shall see: and they that have not heard [the lost] shall
understand [Isaiah
52:15].
22 For which cause also I have been much hindered from
coming to you.

The Romans had knowledge of Jesus, whereas many of the Gentiles in the other nations had no knowledge of Him, so the Holy Spirit guided Paul to other places first.

Now having completed his assignment and having a great desire for many years to visit the Romans, Paul announces that he will visit when he goes to Spain. First however, he planned to go to Jerusalem to "minister to the Saints." Paul explains that the Gentiles of certain nations had taken up a collection for the poor living in Jerusalem.
He asks for prayers that he be protected from those who don't believe in Judea ... don't forget, there were many Jewish people who weren't believers in Judea, and Paul was seen as a traitor by the Jewish religious Leaders.
