King Saul

The people of Israel wanted a king to rule them, instead of judges and prophets that were sent by God to rule them. In order to save God's children from the Philistines, Saul was made the first king of Israel. When God told Saul to totally kill the Amalekites, and all that they had, Saul and the people of his army saved the Amalekite king, Agag and the best of their animals. God was sorry for making Saul king, because he disobeyed and didn't kill everyone and everything that God told him to. Saul was very jealous of David, because David was mightier than Saul and killed more Philistines than he did. It made Saul very mad that his son Jonathan and David were best friends, and as long as David was alive, Jonathan would not be the next king of Israel. Saul spent the rest of his life trying to kill David.
