As we pick up with the ministry of Jesus, He went
into Capernaum and on the Sabbath day, He went into the synagogue and
taught. People were astonished with His teaching. He captivated the
people, He wasn't like the scribes. A scribe was a person who studied
the Scriptures and served as a copyist, editor, teacher, jurist,
author or journalist. His heart was in His teaching.
In the synagogue there was a man with an unclean
spirit. (An unclean spirit is the spirit of a devil.) The man said
with a loud voice, Leave us alone; what business do you have with us,
Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are;
the Holy One of God. Jesus rebuked the spirit that was inside the man
saying, Be quiet and come out of him. Then, tossing the man violently,
the devil left him without harming him. Everyone was amazed and said
to one another, What kind of new teaching is this? He orders the
unclean spirits with power and authority and they obey Him!
Here is another very important thing to know ...
Unfortunately, mind and even soul possession by evil spirits can occur
without one even being conscious of it. These
evil spirits
get into people all the time. Serial killers are
an excellent example of this and they have made these claims of being
possessed, though it fell upon deaf ears. Any time a crime is
committed, it is the devil's work, is it not? Likewise, whenever you
have a thought that is "mischievous," or "devilish," and you don't
identify it and rebuke it by speaking the TRUTH of the matter to
yourself and the entity, or you let it grow within you by pondering on
it, you have let an unclean spirit into your thoughts and it can even
get inside of you and overtake your conscious mind. It can begin to
control your thoughts and even your actions. They are spirits without
flesh and seek to control you so they can live THROUGH you. This is
not such a strange thing, as that is exactly how it works with the
Holy Spirit
... When you believe in Jesus and think pure and
righteous thoughts ... The Holy Spirit dwells within you. Ponder on
this ...
A sure sign of the presence of evil spirits within
the mind/soul, is the fruits (our actions and reactions) ... Anger,
jealousy, lust, greed, fear, doubt in Jesus, etc. ...
A sure sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit
within us is also our fruits ... Love, strength, courage, wisdom,
understanding, faith, grace toward others, etc. ...
Sooooooo, how do we prevent these imps of satan from
gaining control of us and even living within us? The Bible tells us
that we are to control our thoughts. Even Jesus was tempted by satan
himself but Jesus rebuked the lies with TRUTH from Scripture. Pray
every day to have any thoughts or spirits that are not pleasing to God
to be removed from your mind, body, soul and spirit ... In Jesus'
name. You may want to pray this for those around you and your loved
ones as well. I, myself pray it for all of God's children.
Let us now return to the story ... Immediately
Jesus' fame spread around the whole country. Jesus left the synagogue
and went to Peter's house. Peter's mother-in-law was sick with a high
fever and they told Jesus about it. He stood over her and rebuked the
fever and it left her. Jesus took her by the hand and lifted her up
and immediately she got up and served them. Isn't that so cool? Try
that the next time you have a headache or fever. Rebuke it in Jesus'
name, with FAITH. We can do ALL things through HIM.
When the sun was setting, people brought to Jesus
all the people that were sick and He laid His hands on every one of
them and healed them. Devils came out of many, saying, You are the
Christ the Son of God. Jesus rebuked them and didn't allow them to
speak because they knew that He was Christ and it was not time for the
people to know.
In the morning, Jesus rose up long before dawn and
went to a quiet place and prayed. Peter and those who were with him
followed after Jesus and when they found Him they said, Everyone is
looking for you. Jesus said, Let's go into the next towns so that I
can preach the Kingdom of God there, too. That's why I've been sent.
And He preached and cast out devils throughout all of Galilee.
