People called by God are oft times then ordained by God. What does it mean to be ordained by God? To be ordained is to be called, ordered or appointed to accomplish something. The important thing to remember is that it is God who ordains man. Let's take a look at a few examples in the Bible.

Moses was called by God:

Exodus 3:10

Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

1 Samuel 12:6

And Samuel said unto the people, It is the Lord that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

David was ordained by God, although Samuel anointed him (poured oil on his head) God appointed him:

1 Samuel 16:12

And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

Isaiah received his ordaining in a vision from God:

Isaiah 6:5-9

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

Jeremiah was ordained by God:

Jeremiah 1:4-7

4 Then the Word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a Prophet unto the nations.
6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
7 But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

Did you catch the part about Jeremiah being just a child?

Psalms 8:2

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

Ezekiel received his ordination by the Word of the Lord:

Ezekiel 1:3

The Word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.

Daniel was appointed the wisdom to interpret dreams by God:

Daniel 2:20-23

20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His:
21 And He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: He knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with Him.
23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.

If you read the first few verses of each of the books of the minor Prophets, you'll find that the Word of the Lord is the means by which they received their ordination.

The Apostles were ordained by Jesus:

Mark 3:14-15

14 And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

John 15:16

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, He may give it you.

Interesting words that Jesus said:

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you,

Called by God Then Ordained by God Concern
What is My Calling Fear

Does that mean that some of those who are supposedly "ordained" by man, can be missing the ordination of God?

Here is an incident where a man was casting out devils. He was not part of the Apostles' posse, but Jesus confirmed that he was doing God's work. Where do you suppose his ordination came from?

Luke 9:49-50

49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

He was apparently called by God and ordained by God, even though the Apostles knew not. On the other hand, here are seven men that believed themselves to be appointed or ordained by God. Yet, they were very wrong. They should have asked ... What is my calling instead of assuming that if Paul was ordained to do something, they could:

Acts 19:13-16

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

These individuals may have believed that they were ordained by God or called by God to the administration of removing evil spirits, but it is obvious that they were not.

Paul's ordination came from the Lord:

Acts 9:6-7

6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

Galatians 1:1

Paul, an Apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead;)

Galatians 1:12

For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Jesus said that when you receive the Holy Ghost, you receive power and you will witness of Him.

What is My Calling From God to Be?

In short, Ordination comes from God by way of the Holy Spirit, not from man.

Acts 1:8

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the Earth.

These Gentiles were ordained to eternal life by the Lord:

Acts 13:48

And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the Word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

Why would man need to ordain these people whom God already said will be ordained by God?

And what of these the Bible speaks of?

Acts 2:17-18

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

In fact, this story suggests that you can get in trouble if you expect your ordination to come from man, or that you can somehow purchase or obtain the calling of the Holy Spirit in some other way:

Acts 8:14-24

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet He was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the Apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

If being ordained doesn't come from God ... It doesn't exist and will prove to be ineffective.

The power "vested" in a person, is of no value unless they were called by God and their words and deeds are inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Any authority that anyone has must come from only One, and that is God.

1 John 2:27

But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

What is My Calling From God Answered

So, if you feel that you are being called by God to serve Him ... Ask Him. Never allow any man to deceive you into believing that you need to be ordained by man to be called by and to be ordained by God. People called by God may be ordained by God. God is in control and only He can determine who is ordained by God.
