The Tongue Can No Man Tame Danger

James 3:6

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

What a powerful statement ... And a true one! How much trouble do we get into because we don't hold our tongue, but instead let it ignite with careless words? There is so much sin on our lips that James calls it a "world of iniquity." How many occasions does it have to spark a flame? Or rather, how often do we keep silent when such occasion arises?

The Bible cautions us about the fire of the tongue many times, because when we let careless words out of our mouths, we not only hurt others, but ourselves as well ... And we seem to find so many many ways to do this. We condemn, we curse, we demean, we rail, we criticize, we accuse, we ridicule, we gossip, we let our mouths run out of control like wildfire ... Why?

The answer to that question is usually because of our pride. Is it that we want everyone to have the same opinions, ideals and abilities as we do, and when they don't, we feel we have the right to tear them down with careless words? If you have a short fuse and feel you haven't the patience to speak with kindness to another soul, take a deep breath and pray about it, and the sooner the better.

The Bible says that the tongue defiles the whole body in the Scripture from James at the beginning of this Tame the tongue Bible verse study. So, it stands to reason that if you can control your tongue, you are likely to control your entire self more effectively.

But, what is the tongue can no man tame Bible meaning and how does the tongue put us in Spiritual jeopardy. Look at how Jesus explained how the tongue defiles a person:

Matthew 15:11

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Matthew 15:17-19

17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

The Tongue Can No Man Tame Fear

So, how does this happen? The enemy of your soul presents a thought. If that thought is accepted, eventually it is spoken out loud and the games begin.

Proverbs 17:20

He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

Yes, though words are invisible, they can get you into a lot of mischief:

Psalms 10:7

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

Ecclesiastes 10:12-13

12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

Tame the tongue Bible verse warning ... The fire of the tongue can put your soul in jeopardy. It is true:

Proverbs 18:7

A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

Proverbs 21:23

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

Psalms 120:2

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

Jesus confirms this too:

Matthew 12:36-37

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Man cannot "tame" the tongue.

James 3:8-10

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

The Tame the tongue Bible verse secret ingredient ... With God's Grace and His assistance, controlling what words roll off your lips is possible. Pray for the Lord's Hand in helping you to tame your tongue. Here are a couple of examples from Psalms:

Psalms 19:14

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Psalms 39:1

To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

The Tongue Can No Man Tame Curse

Many times people get hurt by the careless words of another person, and it's really a shame. Words can hurt so bad sometimes that it causes some to want to retaliate and hurt the offender with words even worse than those they were hurt by. Don't let the enemy trick you into saying things that hurt other people. In God's image, we are supposed to be compassionate souls, not dreadful, hurtful, heartless stones.Don't get lost in taking revenge either:

Romans 12:19

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

We are warned not to use our tongues as to be bossy over others:

James 3:1

My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

Tame the tongue Bible verse reminder ... That is not to say that we should not teach others in a Christian manner or when they are wrong, but not to set your own self as the standard of how everyone else should live or what they should live up to. You may notice that once a person finds the Lord and commits to following Him, there is a tendency to believe that nobody else is entitled to their own time to figure things out like they did.

Once they realize something is wrong, it is wrong for everyone from that moment on. Agreed, there are some that need stronger encouragement than others, but be very careful whenever you are trying to help another soul, no matter what.

Jude 1:22-23

22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

The Tongue Can No Man Tame Cure

Beware also that your own wit can easily be mistaken for insult. Choose your words carefully, another's soul may be hurt even when you had no intention but to be funny or clever or smart or whatever.

In addition, judging others with the fire of the tongue for what we may deem inadequate is always a dangerous road to travel. Each of us is given unique gifts from the Holy Spirit and the Lord expects from each of us according to that measure ... He doesn't expect one person to measure up to another or judge another whether it be about their gifts or their will power or their strength or their perseverance or their patience or for anything else for that matter.

Matthew 7:1-2

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

The Lord hates a froward mouth. What is a froward mouth? A perverse one.

Proverbs 8:13

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Proverbs 4:24

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

Proverbs 6:12

A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

Proverbs 10:31

The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

Tame the tongue Bible verse time out ... Cut out? Solomon gives us a lot of advice in the Proverbs. He was not the wisest man ever for no reason. We should watch our mouths because it is advantageous for a good and wholesome life.

Proverbs 13:3

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
