The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and Jesus. He is also called the
Holy Ghost. Jesus said that He would be our comforter. A comforter is
someone who gives you hope and makes you not afraid of anything.
Jesus sent Him to guide us and to remind us of the things that He
taught while He was on earth. The Holy Spirit is with us always. You
can talk to Him and ask Him to help you with anything ... Anytime! To
have the Holy Spirit in your life, all you have to do is believe in
Him and invite Him or else you will never know Him. He will be your
best friend forever.
Who is the Holy Spirit? It is God's Spirit and He has been here from
the beginning:
Genesis 1:2
And the Earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.
Wild huh? And He is still right in the middle of things. The Holy
Spirit is the gift that Jesus left for all of us, when He departed to
Heaven and the Holy Spirit Lives in You.
Jesus made us a promise ...
John 14:16-21
16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you
another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot
receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know
Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but
ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and
ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it
is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father,
and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father
will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring
all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 15:26-27
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will
send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth,
which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of me:
27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been
with me from the beginning.
John 16:7
Nevertheless I tell you the Truth; It is expedient for you that I go
away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto
you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.
John 16:13-14
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of Truth, is come,
He will guide you into all Truth: for He shall not speak of
Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak:
and He will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for He shall receive of
mine, and shall shew it unto you.
It was Pentecost which is 50 days after the Resurrection of Jesus
(Easter) and the followers of Jesus were all gathered together in an
upper room and Jesus' Promise ... The Holy Spirit, introduced himself
to them in a most unique way.
Acts 2:2-4
2 And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a
rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were
sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of
fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and
began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
From that point on, the Holy Spirit has been a Comforter to all
Christians. Even Today. Did you know that Jesus said that the only
unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
Matthew 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be
forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not
be forgiven unto men.
Knowing this Truth, it would be good to know how someone would commit
blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, as to avoid doing so. The Bible
says that it is impossible to be forgiven, if one has experienced the
gift of the Holy Spirit and "fell away" or decided to go back to
their old ways, and pretend the Truth never existed, as it would be
like crucifying Jesus afresh.
Hebrews 6:4-6
4 For it is impossible for those who were once
enlightened, and have tasted of the Heavenly gift, and were made
partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good Word of God, and the powers of
the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them
again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of
God afresh, and put Him to an open shame.
Now this does not mean that we will not fall as we sojourn down our
Christian walk. This means we should not fall away and stay away.
Always beware because the devil likes to twist scripture around as to
try and condemn Christians and make them feel they have no part in
God's plan or have fallen from God's Grace
.
The Truth is just the opposite ...
John 3:16-17
16 For God so Loved the world, that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not
perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the
world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
It is obvious that God is looking for ways to get us into Heaven ...
Not keep us out.
But, how do we get "introduced" to the Holy Spirit?
According to Jesus ... All you have to do is believe in Jesus:
John 7:38-39
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said,
out of his belly shall flow rivers of Living Water.
39 (But this spake He of the Spirit, which they
that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet
given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
And ask God for the Holy Spirit.
Luke 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your
children: how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy
Spirit to them that ask Him?
He will actually speak to your mind and heart, if you will listen.
Hebrews 3:7
Wherefore as the Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear His
voice.
Did you know ... Our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit?
Therefore, YOU are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. His actual dwelling
place.
He lives inside of us.
1 Corinthians 3:16
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of
God dwelleth in you?
1 Corinthians 6:19
What? know ye not that your body is the Temple of the Holy Ghost
which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
There is also the issue of the gifts of the Holy Spirit:
The entire chapter speaks of these gifts and why God gives these
gifts to us, by way of the Holy Spirit. The intent of the gifts is so
that we can use them to teach others about God as to edify Him, not
us. It says that different administrations require different gifts,
but we all work for the Lord and are of the same body of Christ. Here
are some of the gifts ... Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracle
Working, Prophecy, Discerning of Spirits, Tongues and the ability to
interpret tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:8-10
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to
another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the
gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another
prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds
of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
Here are some of the administrations that God assigns to those that
He chooses and that He gives the gifts of the Holy Spirit to ...
Apostles, prophets, teachers, miracle workers, healers, helpers,
governments, different tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:28
And God hath set some in the church, first Apostles,
secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then
gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
You Are The Temple of the Holy Spirit Point of Interest ... Many
believe that speaking
in tongues is something that automatically happens when the Holy
Spirit is within you. It is just not true.
1 Corinthians 12:29-30
29 Are all Apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers?
are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with
tongues? do all interpret?
This reveals to us that the gifts are given as we need them.
The gift of speaking in tongues was given to the Apostles because
they spoke to large groups of people of different languages and all
people of different languages were able to understand this
spiritually universal language.
Acts 2:8-12
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we
were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in
Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of
Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our
tongues the wonderful works of God.
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one
to another, What meaneth this?
In 1
Corinthians, Chapter 14 Paul tells us that it is better to
prophecy than to speak in tongues. He goes on to say that for one to
speak in tongues and not be able to interpret what they are saying to
those he is speaking to, is a form of self edification and of no use.
It does not edify God.
He says that he would rather speak 5 clear words which all could
understand, than 10,000 words which nobody understands.
1 Corinthians 14:19
Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my
understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten
thousand words in an unknown tongue.
His point is ... Why would anyone want to teach others in an unknown
language when those that he is teaching cannot even understand him?
In this day and age, we are usually sharing truth, teaching or
speaking to another that understands our language and therefore we do
not need the gift of tongues. Perhaps if the administration
called for it, God would give it to you in that hour.
Again ... The Apostle Paul explains it very well:
1 Corinthians, Chapter 13
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling
cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand
all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so
that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and
though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it
profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth
not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is
not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all
things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies,
they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether
there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which
is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as
a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away
childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face
to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am
known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but
the greatest of these is charity.
Desire charity over gifts. Without it ... The gifts are as nothing.
Obtain faith hope and charity. But, the greatest of these is
charity.
You should accept your free gift of salvation and the gifts of the
Holy Spirit. Always have compassion and love for others, lest your
gifts bear no fruit.
The Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) is but one aspect of the ...
Trinity
1 John 5:7
For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father,
the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three
are one.
Again, in the Old Testament He makes it so clear:
Isaiah 48:16
Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in
secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I:
and now the Lord GOD, and His Spirit, hath sent
me.
Awesome huh? Not only does Jesus (being the Word of God) reveal the
Truth of the Trinity
by saying the Lord and His Spirit sent Me but
shares with us that Jesus has been from the beginning, just as the
Apostle John revealed and that it is Jesus that speaks to us in the
Word of God (the Bible) as He is the Word of God.
John 1:1-14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not
any thing made that was made.
4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness
comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the
Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of
that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that
cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and
the world knew Him not.
11 He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.
12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to
become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the
flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,
(and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father,) full of Grace and Truth.
We, as humans have been taught by society to be so single
dimensional. We see the physical world but understand not the
spiritual matters. We seem to have difficulty believing concepts that
make no sense to our limited way of thinking. The answer is to
broaden your mind's horizons.
The Bible is clear ...
