DEFENDING YOUR FAITH
HOW TO DEFEND YOUR FAITH
Christianity Oasis Ministry has provided you with this Christian Walk study. How to defend your Faith? We will be looking into that as well as all aspects of the Christian Walk. This SON-derful study will reveal truth which will bring forth understanding and then peace within. Let's proceed, shall we?
DEFENDING YOUR FAITH
HOW TO DEFEND YOUR FAITH
Sooner or later, itís inevitable, every Christian will find
themselves (you too have or will as well) in a situation where they/you are forced into defending your Faith. Friends, family, co-workers, even strangers may attack the beliefs
that make up who you are ... A Christian. This isnít a new
trick of the devilís tho ... He has been using this one since the
beginning of man. But, we have a hero, named Jesus Christ,
and a manual called the Holy Bible, which can guide us in TRUTH, whenever our convictions are
questioned which shows you how to defend your faith.
The trials and tribulations that we face in our
Christian walk of Faith are all tests of the devotion we have to our
Savior. Itís our Faith that gets us through, and dedication to our
Faith is what insures us of the eternal life we hope for.
The most important thing to remember is that thereís
only One that you have to answer to, and that is GOD! Thatís the
bottom line. But itís those lines in the middle that become a problem
Nobody can tell you what words to say, to make
people accept your choice to follow the Lord, because everyone is
different, both believers and unbelievers. Some may be converted by
your devotion and fidelity, and others may disassociate themselves
completely from you. Youíll find however, that the deeper your
commitment is to Jesus Christ, the more peace of mind youíll have with
the outcome of your confrontations with those people who disagree with
Donít be surprised when even your family contends with you about
WHY IS DEFENDING YOUR FAITH IMPORTANT AND HOW DO YOU DEFEND YOUR FAITH IN A RIGHTEOUS MANNER?
JESUS ... Predicted that this would happen.
And a man's foes shall be they
of his own household.
And ye shall be betrayed
both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and
some of you shall they cause to be put to death.
He said that a personís enemies would
be within their own family. Some will even think that theyíre doing a
God service by challenging you ...
They shall put you out of the
synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you
will think that he doeth God service.
Jesus explains that He didnít come to
bring peace on earth, but rather, division. The father against the
son, and the mother against the daughter.
The father shall be divided
against the son, and the son against the father; the mother
against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the
mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in
law against her mother in law.
To prove who is
devoted to Him.
said that when things happen to us because of our belief in Him, weíre
blessed, and weíll be rewarded in Heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall
revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil
against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding
glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they
the prophets which were before you.
Jesus said that if we love our father
or mother more than Him, weíre not worthy of Him.
He that loveth father or
mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son
or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Luke words this a little differently,
saying that if we donít hate our
mother, father, wife, children, brothers and sisters and our own life
also, we canít be His disciples.
If any man come to me, and
hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and
brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be
Whoa! Hate is a pretty strong word, you may be thinking, and just
the opposite of what Jesus taught when He said, (Matthew
19:19) Honor your father and mother, and LOVE your neighbor as
yourself. What Jesus was doing when He said those things, was making a
point, that He doesnít want a bunch of followers who are half
heartedly loyal, He wants total devotion. That doesnít mean that
everyone who follows Christ should abandon their family and friends or
quit their job (although in some instances, it may be necessary), but
rather, donít ever let them become your priority over Him. And that
hate part . . . thatís referring to the worldly things about them, not
their righteous qualities.
Another thing Jesus said, is that
there is nobody that has left house or family or homes for His sake
and the Gospelís, that wont receive a hundred times as much in the
world to come
Verily I say unto you, There is
no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father,
or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the
Remember that Jesus said that those who do the will of His Father
ARE HIS mother and brother and sister,
For whosoever shall do the
will of my Father which is in Heaven, the same is my brother,
and sister, and mother.
It sounds to me like you have a new
family, or should I say - Another family!
Stand by your beliefs. As you can see, the world doesnít have a
very good track record. (The news proves that every day.) The world
(that includes your family) is being slow-poisoned, by evil and
wickedness. You donít have to swallow what everyone else does. Thatís
why Jesus is calling you, because you havenít blindly followed the
rest of the sheep to the slaughter. Keep your feet firmly planted in
Faith, and remember TRUTH,
Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?
whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy
Love not the world, neither
the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the
love of the Father is not in him.
Again, this doesnít mean to hate the
world that God created, and to harbor hatred in your heart for
everything and everyone. God doesnít want that at all. God LOVES the
For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
LOVE all, and LOVE the life
that God gave you, but discern the evil and hate the evil.
Stay as far away from it as you can, because you become
as what you surround yourself with, so
surround yourself with
things that remind you
of God and your walk
with Him. Your
eyes are the portal to the soul, so wouldn't it be a good idea to
influence your soul with holy things? We are greatly influenced by
what our eyes are exposed to. How true and Biblically sound is this?
Jacob influenced his father-in-law Laban's flocks to bear striped,
speckled, and spotted offspring by facing the animals toward tree
branches that he peeled in striped, speckled and spotted patterns (Genesis
30:37-39). If you want to be conformed to the image of God,
surround yourself with Godly things.
Determine in your heart, be certain, have no shadow of a doubt . .
. following Christ is the right way to go, not following the world. I
know itís a tough thing when your own family doesnít understand your
Faith, because hey, theyíre your family and you have a natural
emotional connection to them called LOVE, but for a moment think of it
this way: What if they were someone elseís family? Would you feel so
torn apart because you believe in righteousness, and they follow after
the world on their leashes?
If a stranger disagreed with your beliefs, it would mean little to
you, and you wouldnít have any problem defending your Faith to them.
But family is a different story. If you defend your Faith to your
family, itís because youíre more dedicated to your cause, than to your
family. Most people donít want to jeopardize the LOVE of their family
for anything, and Jesus knew this. Now you can see clearer, why He
said that He came to bring division, and He will separate the sheep
from the goats
When the Son of man shall come
in His glory, and all the holy Angels with Him, then shall He
sit upon the Throne of His glory: And before Him shall be
gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from
another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And He
shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the
left. Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come,
ye blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you
from the foundation of the world.
Ask yourself what the TRUTH is. Whatís most important to you? Your
family and the world, or your Faith in Christ? That doesnít mean you
have to sever your communication with your family, but you do have to
change your attitude. Jesus said to pray for those who are against you,
because if you only bless those who LOVE you, everything is even.
Youíve done nothing extraordinary.
Ye have heard that it hath
been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse
you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the
children of your Father which is in Heaven: for he maketh his
sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the
just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what
reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same.
Youíre not alone. Every Christian faces this dilemma, whether it be
with their family or others. You have God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and
all your Christian brothers and sisters who support you in choosing
Christ. Instead of feeling like you have to end your relationship with
your family, perhaps one day, maybe one, some, or all of them may be
reborn, too, because of you! You must stand firm, and whenever they
oppose your Christian beliefs, take that as an opportunity to
enlighten them. Defend the Faith! And donít forget how the Apostles
rejoiced because they were beaten and suffered shame in the name of
And to him they agreed: and
when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they
commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and
let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council,
rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His
Now, speaking of this new attitude in defending your
wonít be easy at first, but as Christians, weíve all gotten a taste of
how unkind people can be in trying to embarrass us about your Faith,
or prove it wrong. Most people think that Christians are too
ďextreme.Ē Tell me, if you were Jesus, would you want anyone to be
your follower who wasnít? There is no such thing as being too devoted
to God. Not only can you adapt a new attitude, but you can enhance
your Faith in a number of ways. As your Faith grows, defending it
becomes easier. A person can read the Bible word for word from cover
to cover, and not understand most of it. If you donít understand what
youíre defending, it will be more difficult. There are some things
that you can do that will help.
Thereís a term that people use when they feel like people donít
understand their Christian beliefs . . . the lonely road of Faith.
Friends, you donít have time to feel alone, or lonely, because this
website alone, has more than 5,000 pages about Christianity. If youíre
unimpressed by the world now, wait until you learn more about Godís
world! Letís just say you studied one page a day, it would take you
over 13 years to read them all. The more you learn, the easier it will
become for you to walk the walk of Faith and fight the good fight, and
your feeling of being alone on your journey will be replaced with
eagerness to do Godís will in whatever way He has planned for you to
What about Christian camaraderie? You can always go to the
chat-rooms here and share your thoughts with others who are going
through the same perseverance that you are. Itís always comforting to
know youíre not the only one who has ever gone through this.
Donít be fooled by people who want you to prove things about your
Faith to them. Faith is belief in something that has NO proof! If
something can be proven, it takes no Faith to believe in it.
Most people believe in LOVE
... Do they not know that God
He that loveth not knoweth not
God; for God is love.
How then, can a person believe in LOVE, and not in God?
Thatís a great question to ask the Faithless.
DEFENDING YOUR FAITH RESPONSES
Can you expect everything to go perfectly? Heavenís no. Nothingís
perfect, except Jesus. You will fall. EVERYBODY does. The difference
is whether you choose to wallow in pools of self pity when you fall,
or you get back up on your feet and persist. Pick up where you left
off. Make a mental note of what caused your stumbling and try, try
Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you
and strengthen you. If youíre a Christian soldier, He supplies your
ammunition and your armor. He is your offense and your defense. Trust
in Him. He will provide you with TRUTH.
Jesus said not to worry about what to
say, because it will be given to you in that same hour, what you
should say. Because it isnít you that speaks, but the Spirit of your
Father, which speaks in you.
But when they deliver you up,
take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be
given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not
ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in
The emotions youíre feeling if
your family disagrees with you are very common, youíll find. And
theyíre also a part of the trials and tribulations that you read about
in the Bible. Overcome those emotions with TRUTH, like the scripture
passages that youíve been reading in this study. If you ever find
yourself skating through your life as a Christian and things are going
just perfectly in every way, thatís when you should be alarmed. Satan
doesnít just give up on Christians who pass certain requirements. No,
the closer they get to God, the more the devil turns up the heat
(through temptations and trials). Thatís why you hear those ďcrazyĒ
Christians in the Bible (the Apostles) talk about rejoicing in
Blessed is the man who
perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he
will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those
who LOVE Him.
It looks like you have some
celebrating to do, because youíre on the right path! Smile because
these things that youíre facing prove it! STAND FIRM
Only let your conversation be
as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see
you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye
stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for
the faith of the gospel; And in nothing terrified by your
adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but
to you of salvation, and that of God.
Because ... Many are called,
but few are chosen.
So the last shall be first,
and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
Because few CHOOSE HIM over the
