The Bible makes it very clear that as we teach our
children, as they grow older, that discipline is to be used at times
according to the Don’t Spare the Rod Bible verse. But, perhaps
we should delve into the whole Truth and seek the true essence of the
Don’t spare the rod meaning.
When speaking of the End Times events, Jesus shared a statement, just
after warning us of false prophets and just before the warning of the
abomination of desolation.
Here is what Jesus warned us of:
Matthew 24:12
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall
wax cold.
What did Jesus
mean by iniquity abounding and Love waxing cold? He is saying that
due to the overwhelming sin in the world, the Love within
mankind would become hardened hearts.
Even within families ...
2 Timothy 3:1-4
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times
shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of own selves,
covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient
to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural
affection, trucebreakers, false accusers,
incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are
good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of
pleasures more than lovers of God.
Disobedient to parents ...
Let’s take a lil Don’t Spare the Rod Meaning study of the
don’t spare the rod Bible verse field trip ... I would like to
share a story of a woman’s teen children who would verbally and
physically abuse her for years.
One of the favorite sayings from her own teenage child was
“I was born to make your life hell,” and these words echoed
off the walls of that home, almost daily.
Here is but one example of the physical abuse ... Her
teenage daughter walked into the Mother’s bedroom and
demanded money to hang with her friends and the Mother said
no, so the teen hit the Mother in the face, knocked her down
and tried to steal the purse having the Mother cling on to
the purse in a tug of war.
Kinda like a mugging in your own home, by your own child.
The woman finally escaped the horror after the teen beat her
yet again (But, for the last time) and then ran off to live
with her Dad where she then assaulted his new wife and had a
peace bond placed on her ...
This was the Mother’s opportunity to be free. Of course this teen would find reasons within their own mind
to justify their actions and even find scapegoats to blame
later in life. However, a tree is known by its fruits. The common denominator in every physical assault was only the teen. This woman finally stood up and said ... No more.
Then the teen took her verbal and physical abuse elsewhere. Coolest thing is that the physical abuse she received,
rushed the Mother into the arms of Jesus where she has been ever
since.
NOTE: This is not
only true with children and parents but husbands,
wives, boyfriends and girlfriends. If you are in a
physically abusive relationship ... Get help early
before it escalates. Run to Jesus and He will heal
you.
We received an e-mail from someone who visited one of our
counseling programs wrote this:
To whom this may concern:
Hi I am a missionary. My husband slapped me on my right cheek and kicked my
left leg for the first in our almost 4 years of marriage ... I am afraid
domestic violence had just started in our home.
I am so hurt emotional and couldn’t comprehend it happened!
Please pray for me ... I have no one else to share it to ...
My closed friends are all overseas.
Thank you.
God bless you.
Please pray for this soul.
Don’t Spare the Rod Bible Verse Warning
What was it like
when you were a child ... What would happen if you so much as
mouthed off to your parents?
Has not life
changed so much in this last generation? I remember when a coach or
principal could bend us over and give us swats at will. I
remember a time when if we were bad at home, we got a
spanking and or were grounded for the rest of our lives.
Now, the Bible
seemed to back some parent’s play did it not?
With Scripture like this:
Proverbs 13:24
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth
him chasteneth him betimes.
And this ...
Proverbs 29:15
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to
himself bringeth his mother to shame.
And this ...
Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of
correction shall drive it far from him.
Oh and this bad boy ... (Pun intended!)
Proverbs 23:13-14
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest
him with the rod, he shall not die.
14 Thou shalt beat him with
the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
I am
thinking my parents read this a lot cuz they did not stop
spanking just cuz I cried out:
Proverbs 19:18
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul
spare for his crying.
Don’t Spare the Rod Meaning reminder ... Abusive chastening is
of course not what the Bible is
speaking of, but as you can see, and every parent knows,
children need discipline. And every child is different. One
may learn from a simple time out. Another may need other restrictions. Some
with gentleness. Some with more stern measures.
Jude 1:22-23
22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
23 And others
save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even
the garment spotted by the flesh.
Spare the Rod Bible Verse Message
Now, I am not one who believes in physical discipline. I believe that in most cases sharing Truth in a mutual respect should be able to
overcome issues. I am merely pointing out how discipline has changed and how this generation seems to have gotten so much worse. I am thinking the parents of this generation got the wrong end of the ‘stick’ ...
We were taught to honor and obey.
Exodus 20:12
Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long
upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Don’t Spare the Rod Bible Verse Notice:
Now, let me say,
right up front, that there are circumstances where some
parents aren’t very respectable, and if you’re in such
circumstances, please pray and seek the guidance of the
Holy Spirit about what to do. Certainly our loving Father doesn’t
want children to be abused by parents.
But if the
child/teen/young adult has no justification for
disrespecting the parents that God has put in charge of
their soul, they are not only hurting their parents, but
they are disobeying God’s command, and hurting themselves.
At what point do we say no more? From a parental
point of view ... Requiring respect from your children while obtaining
and maintaining control of what they partake of in a world full of lures, may seem
like an impossible goal, but if you give up before you even
try, then you will never achieve your objective which is saving your child from the pitfalls in life.
Here is the number one Don’t Spare the Rod Bible verse trivia question ...
So, how does one attempt to achieve respect and obedience from their
children? Well, obviously the best thing you can do is to teach
them as early as possible all that you know about Biblical
teachings:
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when
he is old, he will not depart from it.
Ephesians 6:4
... bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the
Lord.
Don’t Spare the Rod Bible Verse Truth
Another key to success is to keep them out of the world as
much as possible. I can’t stress to you enough how important
this is, and believe me, you will have opposition from every
angle when you choose to do this ... Because it’s not worldly
to stay out of the world ... It’s Godly.
1 John 2:15-17
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is
not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the
flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is
not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world
passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the
will of God abideth for ever.
James 4:4
... know ye not that the friendship of the world is
enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the
world is the enemy of God.
So, what do you think?
Another Don’t Spare the Rod Bible verse trivia question ... Why
do we take such careful measures to insure the safety and
protection of our children’s physical well being against the
world when they’re infants, but when society dictates, or
whenever we choose it’s the right time, we don’t bat
an eye at turning their delicate little souls loose for the
world to influence however it pleases?
What I’m saying is, that once a child learns the ways of the
world, whether it be through school, or television, or
books, or whispers, etc, it is more difficult to teach them
a new habit.
God knows that children can be unruly, and that’s why
tough love is part of His plan of discipline. The Bible
confirms this many times.
Here is a Don’t Spare the Rod Bible verse Truth to ponder upon ... It’s
frightening how much adults are like children in this way.
If only we, as adults, would listen to our Heavenly Father,
how much pain we could avoid in our lives. What was it that
led us away? Was it that the world spoke up louder than our
Father did when choices were presented to us? Or perhaps we
just chose to ignore Him completely. Chances are, the
consequences of our choices had a pretty loud volume too.
And we, as children of the Lord ... Need to understand when we are
disciplined by the Lord:
Hebrews 12:5-8
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation whicch speaketh unto
you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord,
nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him:
6 For whom the
Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son
whom He receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God
dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he
whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without
chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye
bastards, and not sons.
By good example, and awareness, you can help your children to
recognize when the world is trying to lure them into the
wrong choices, and surely, they will follow. If
not now ... Someday. The don’t spare the rod Bible verse reveals
a serious concern for our children. Ponder and pray on this and don’t
spare the rod of Truth.
