What Does Peace Be Still Mean?
Psalm 4:4
Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and
be still. Selah.
What does it mean to commune upon your bed?
It is speaking of praying ...
And when we are praying and communing with the Lord ...
We must remember that we are oft times awaiting a still small voice ...
1 Kings 19:11-12
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the
Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent
the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord
was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was
not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the
fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
To hear a still small voice, we too must be still.

What Does Peace Be Still Mean in the Bible?
Being unable to have our mind and body be still is also a major hindrance
to prayer. Remember back in school when teachers would always tell the
class to calm down and sit still? Remember how hard that was sometimes?
Why can't we learn while running around? We can listen and move at the
same time, can't we?
Why must we be still?
When you want to hear what someone has to say, what do you do? Get up and
move around while they are talking? No, you sit down with them. While they
are talking, you do not ponder on and worry about other matters, you still
your mind and body, while focusing on what they are saying.
What about with God? Do we still our bodies and minds when we seek to
commune with Him? Are we to pray to Him while constantly moving about
never stilling ourselves enough to hear what He has to say back to us and
then have the audacity to claim that He never talks to us?
Do you find it difficult to be still?

What Does Peace Be Still Mean in the Bible Path
The Truth is that we are usually so busy trying to deal with matters in
our lives ourselves that we do not hear Him. This happens so often that He
has to come to us in our dreams when we are not ... So busy:
Job 33:14-16
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it
not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep
falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their
instruction,
If we want to hear God, then we must choose to still our mind and body by
putting away Worldly thoughts ... Refuse to run at any whim ... Be still
and listen to and for God. Still our spirit/mind by refusing to worry
about anything for a few minutes, by refusing to think of everything you
need to get done that day ... but just focus on God and listen.

What Does Peace Be Still Mean in the Bible Today
When a little child is frightened or worried, how do we comfort them? Do
we raise our voice and throw our hands up in panic or do we hold the child
still and say quietly, "Shhhhhhh, everything is alright"? We try to still
the child's body and mind so they can focus on our whispers of comfort and
peace ... just as God tries to do with us.
Now it is easy to sit here and admit that being still should be done ...
But, how do we obtain and maintain this ability to still our mind and body
though?
We must practice the art of being still ... Just as waves are constantly
moving every second of every day, our minds are bombarded with thoughts
all day long. God can calm the waves, just as He can calm your spirit and
body:
Psalms 107:29-30
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are
they glad because they be quiet; so He bringeth them unto their desired
haven.
Our souls long for serenity within all day, every day. Some kind of
comfort. Some kind of quiet. Someone to slow down our thoughts, worries
and anxiety from our troubled lives. God is the One who can and will calm
the storms within us and provide us peace when we are still. From this
peace will come forth ... Our desired haven.

What Does Peace Be Still Mean in the Bible Verse
We must choose to ask Him:
Matthew 7:8
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to
him that knocketh it shall be opened.
So let us ask Him to calm us ... To help us to be still within. Do not
forget, you must believe that He can and will calm you within for Him to
do so.
We must believe to receive:
Mark 11:24
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire,
when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall
have them.
When Jesus and the Apostles were out on a boat, a terrible storm came upon
them. While Jesus was sleeping, the disciples feared for their lives. They
awoke Him and asked Him for help. They knew He would be able to keep them
safe.
What did Jesus do?
Mark 4:39
And He arose and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still ... And the wind ceased, and
there was a great calm.

What Does Peace Be Still Mean to You
We must choose to rebuke those thoughts that try and flood our minds when
we seek to be still within. We must focus on Him. But, this is easier said
than done huh? Distractions seem to pour into our lives during the
precious time we seek to spend with God.
You know of these distractions don't you ...
Consider the times you have prayed in the past. You finally silence your
surroundings and try to calm your mind and you start talking to God and
ask Him a question.
And suddenly ... Wham!
Yeah, one of the most effective tools that the enemy of our soul uses to
negatively affect our time with God is to pour in thoughts ... Thoughts
about anything ... Everything. Having us ponder or worry about our "to do"
list in the midst of communing with God. Yeah, this is probably not God
telling you to leave Him to go deal with something yourself.

What Does Peace Be Still Mean in the Bible Scripture
However, there are times when God does have things occur or places His
thoughts within our mind or even body ... For example ... Ever notice your
hand tingling and slowly closing as if Someone is holding it? Maybe God is
saying I am holding your hand. Are your knees tingling? Maybe He is asking
you to kneel? Does your ear itch? Maybe God is telling you to listen more
carefully. Do you get a chill up your spine?
Maybe God is saying ... I am here.
God also might use pictures or thoughts to speak to us. When we are
completely still and in the presence of Him, He may put a thought of
something that He would like you to do for Him in your mind, or a picture
of something that you need to work on.
Yeah, we need to learn to be still. Only when we are still... Can we truly
tune in to God. Stilling our body, will still our mind which in turn will
still our soul and spirit. Then peace will overtake us. You feel comfort
and rest. Overwhelming peace. And it all starts with being still and
focusing on the Lord ... This is rest for our soulS.

What Does Peace Be Still Mean in the Bible Now
Matthew 11:28-29
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and
lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Rest for our souls? Is that really possible to possess in our troubled
lives?
We need only turn to God instead of having confidence in ourselves. Be
still and faithful as we await the Lord. In quiet confidence ... In Him:
Isaiah 30:15
For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest
shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength:
and ye would not.
Jesus says it Himself ...
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth,
give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
