How to Get Rid of Pride Problems Explained
Pride ... Even the word pride sounds ugly does it not? What is pride and how can we avoid and overcome pride? Actually, there are different kinds of pride you can feel or display. Some are good, and some are not.
You can have pride in being a Christian. You can also be proud of
another person for many different reasons. You can take pride in
something that you've accomplished. These are all good things.
Then, there's the other kind of pride. This is the one that God
doesn't like. It comes from too much self esteem. There are some
words that are kin to pride, like arrogance, conceit, haughtiness,
highfalutin, vainglory, pompous, etc.
No matter what name it's given, it doesn't change the fact that
nobody wants to be identified by such a thing. If anyone has ever
accused you of being prideful, you know what a disdainful feeling it
is, and many times, ugh, pride steps in and tries to defend itself,
then things get even uglier.
Why are people so prideful? There are a number of reasons:
- Not wanting to appear to have failed.
- To avoid embarrassment.
- Because it's hard to accept blame for something they did.
- They forget that God doesn't like it.
- To make themselves feel important.
Etc.!!!
How to get rid of pride? Pride is a stickler for trying to disguise itself. What I mean is
that it is evil by nature and it wants to convince people that it's
not really pride that they are overcome by many times, but something
else. We're going to take a look at some different situations in this
study and see how pride can subtly control you if you're not careful.
Pride, as it's name indicates, usually plays it's wicked games when
it sees the opportunity to make you feel like you're right about
something and someone else is wrong.

How to Get Rid of Pride Problems Now
Let's say an issue is being discussed that you're not well versed
about. You don't want to appear unknowing so you voice your opinion,
and someone points out that you're wrong about it. Pride will have
you come up with as many points as you can to support what you said,
no matter how insignificant, and you will refuse to concede that you
were wrong 'till the cows come home even after you realize your error
... Which you eventually do, but to admit it would just be too
humiliating for you. (But wait a sec, isn't humility a good thing?)
Proverbs 11:2
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
Here's a popular prideful act that most people engage in. You offer
an apology to someone for something, but immediately after you say
you're sorry, you add, But .......
Why is it so terribly
difficult to say those two simple words, I'm sorry,
and leave
it at that? The only three words that should come after the words,
I'm sorry,
are, I was wrong.
When you add,
But ...
You are really giving your excuse for why you think
that what you did was okay, and that you're really not sorry after
all. You're defending your action, not apologizing for it. A good
thing to remember about this one is ... Don't do it to God either.
Proverbs 29:23
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble
in spirit.
Often times, you'll find pride speaking against the good. If you ever
find yourself contending with things that you know down deep in your
heart are righteous, that's a sure indication of pride problems. Christians
endure this display of pride often times from non-Christians, but
even within the fellowship of Christians, pride will urge some people
to disagree with just about anything just to be provocative or to try
and prove someone wrong. When you need to step on someone else to
make yourself taller, pride is the culprit.
Psalms 31:18
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things
proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
Proverbs 13:10
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

How to Get Rid of Pride Problems Forever
Now, that you know how to get rid of pride problems, what about when you may have been a victim of someone else's pride problems or witnessed it in
a chat room or forum from time to time. Pride loves to question and
contend with Truth. You're in good company ... It looks as if David
had this problem with people too:
Psalms 12:1-4
1 Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful
fail from among the children of men.
2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with
flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3 The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the
tongue that speaketh proud things:
4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips
are our own: who is Lord over us?
And Paul experienced this too, and teaches not to associate with
people who insist on this kind of behavior.
1 Timothy 6:3-5
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome
words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine
which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about
questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife,
railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and
destitute of the Truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such
withdraw thyself.
Here is a Pride Bible study secret. Speaking pridefully has a distinct flavor to it. You know the one.
Your throat tightens up even before you're done speaking and the
bottom of the shoe (from sticking your foot in your mouth) is kinda
like gravel. You wish you hadn't spoken, but alas. Will you follow up
with more pride or will you be able to climb down from the pedestal
you've put yourself on, back down to humility, which is where you
belong, by admitting you were prideful and ask God for forgiveness
(without any buts)?

Some people will even seek others to take their side when they are
acting pridefully, and though the majority may agree with them,
righteousness and Truth will always prevail.
Proverbs 16:5
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord:
though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Pride Bible study tidbit of Truth ... Pride is defiling. That's a very harsh word you might say, but pride
is an ugly monster that people don't take as seriously as they
should. Jesus included pride in with some pretty wicked other things
that are dangerous to our souls.
Mark 7:15-23
15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into
him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are
they that defile the man.
16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
17 And when He was entered into the house from the people,
His disciples asked Him concerning the parable.
18 And He saith unto them, Are ye so
without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing
from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the
belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
20 And He said, That which cometh out of the man, that
defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil
thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit,
lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the
man.
Pride also puts distance between you and God.
Psalms 138:6
Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the
proud He knoweth afar off.
Psalms 119:21
Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy
commandments.
1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of
you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God
resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

How to Get Rid of Pride Problems for God
Pride is a sin.
Proverbs 21:4
An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
Pride is a disease that is spreading rapidly, and if you think about
it carefully, you may find that parents are actually infecting their
own children with this epidemic, without even realizing what they're
doing.
Here's how that works. You have a child (we'll call him Jr.) and you
love that child so very very much that you praise each and every
little thing that little Jr. does because you're so proud, and you
know, all the child rearing experts say it's the right thing to do.
Even things that Jr. is supposed to do are made a big deal of,
as though he did something extraordinary.
Awwwww, look honey, Jr. turned the light off when he left the room
... Isn't he smarrrrrt?!
Oh Brrrrrother!
Build their self esteem,
they say, They're gonna need a lot
of confidence to compete in today's world,
they say, Focus on
the positive,
they say, etc., etc., etc.
Problem ...
The 'experts' seem to have ignored the Word of God in all their
theories. Our job as parents isn't to nourish our children's precious
little egos;
Ephesians 6:4
... but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
... And that means discipline must be exercised when needed, not only
praise. Incidentally, as Christians, we are taught by our Lord to be
selfless, and esteem others above ourselves, therefore, the less we
feed our ego, the more we grow in the Lord, and the less likely we
are to be prideful.

How to Get Rid of Pride Problems Explained
Our Father's plans of how children should be raised are not only
being ravaged by today's 'experts' but by the law as well. People
have let the world dictate how they raise their children instead of
obeying what our Lord tells us. In fact, upholding the Word of God is
even illegal in some states. You may not chasten your child the way
God commands or you will be thrown in jail.
1 John 2:15-16
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in
him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh,
and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the
Father, but is of the world.
Anyway ... The results of all this pride business to many parents'
chagrin, is that we've ended up with children who think they can do
no wrong. Talk about the perfect setup for a dangerous generation of
adults ... Whew! No wonder our world today reeks of arrogance,
conceit, stubbornness ...
Pride!
Ecclesiastes 1:9-10
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and
that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new
thing under the sun.
10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is
new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
Pride is nothing new. We've learned that pride is sin, and we know
that sin is something we've all inherited from our ancestors Adam and
Eve and that we must fight it every day. You may believe that in
today's world it's more difficult to fight the battle against sin,
than in Biblical times, but folks, spiritual warfare has been around
ever since that fated day in the garden of Eden.
I'd like to take you back in time for a moment to the exodus from
Egypt. After hundreds of years of slavery and God Almighty bringing
freedom to the children of Israel with wondrous miracles, their pride
overcame them frequently in the wilderness on their way to the
Promised Land. So much so, in fact, they earned the title
'stiffnecked people' from God Himself.
Exodus 32:9
And the Lord said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold,
it is a stiffnecked people ...
What do you think the term 'stiffnecked' means? That's right ...
Prideful.

How to Get Rid of Pride Problems Within
Their pride caused God to only allow the ones twenty years and
younger to enter His chosen land, because their prideful ways were an
abomination to Him.
No, ladies and gentlemen, pride is nothing new, only the generation
is new.
Everyone thinks they know it all, everyone thinks they have a better
way ... even God's chosen people thought they knew better than God.
No wonder pride has earned the disgust it merits in our Lord's eyes.
Proverbs 8:13
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and
arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
Proverbs 6:16-19
16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven
are an abomination unto Him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that
shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that
be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth
discord among brethren.
An interesting thing to ponder on, is how many other sins have pride
as their origin. How many of our sins start out with pride and then
evolve ... Or add other sins to it?
In our Christian walk, we strive to be like Jesus. He, being the Son
of God is the only person to ever live that had a right to esteem
Himself better than anyone else, yet He was meek, humble, a servant
to all those He encountered. Do we practice this kind of humility in
our lives while we steady boast that we represent Christianity, or is
pride our manner of choice?
Psalms 10:4
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after
God: God is not in all his thoughts.

How to Get Rid of Pride Problems Effectively
Did you know that anger is an element of pride?
Proverbs 21:24
Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
The Bible also says that pride will be one of the signs of the End
Times, and that we should avoid people who are prideful:
2 Timothy 3:1-5
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times
shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous,
boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents,
unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false
accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more
than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power
thereof: from such turn away.
Did you know that many times God speaks to us in our dreams because
when we're conscious, we're so busy with our own purpose (our own
view of what's important) that we miss God speaking to us, so in our
dreams, God makes His messages clear, while our pride is also asleep.
Job 33:14-17
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it
not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep
falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then He openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their
instruction,
17 That He may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide
pride from man.

How to Get Rid of Pride Problems Conclusion
Ah, one last thing to sort of sum things up. This is a very important
thing to know. Pride can prevent Grace:
James 4:1-11
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they
not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and
cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye
may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the
friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will
be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit
that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But He giveth more Grace. Wherefore He saith, God
resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse
your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be
turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he
shall lift you up.
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that
speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil
of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art
not a doer of the law, but a judge.
