Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Study on Reprobate Mind in the Bible Purpose

What is a reprobate mind?

Let us look at the word reprobate ...

The dictionary defines reprobate as ...

A morally unprincipled person. One who is predestined to damnation.

Let's look at three running verses of Galatians 5:14-16 and then discuss each verse ... One at a time.

What is a Reprobate Mind Meaning
Reprobate Mind in the Bible Study

Here it is in context.

Galatians 5:14-16

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Here is Verse 14 ...

What is a Reprobate Mind - Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Study - Reprobate Mind in the Bible Warning

It appears that we are to love ourselves lest he would not say love others (which we know we are to do) as we love ourselves. Or is He saying that we should put as much care into what others feel and need as we do when we seek to please ourselves?

Another interesting point while we are on the topic ... We are being told to love all others constantly within God's Word?

Can we possibly love all others?

I mean some folks who we encounter appear down right unlovable and foul spirited and oft times have something against us for no apparent reason.

Alas ... We are to love them all. Not just pick and choose who we want to love.

Matthew 5:46

For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Even our enemies ...

Luke 6:35

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

So, we are to love and care for all others as we seek to have done for ourselves. To sacrifice our carnal and selfish points of view as to be able to Love all and help others attain joy and freedom. Sounds like what Jesus did for us, huh? I mean there have been points in our lives where we were less than lovable and He still loved and loves us.

Here is Verse 15 ...

What is a Reprobate Mind and Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Discussion on Reprobate Mind in the Bible Concerns

Obviously, Paul is not speaking of Physical biting and devouring, but rather Spiritual. So, Paul must be referring to attacking and backbiting one another.

Backbiting is slandering or speaking badly of a person behind that person's back. So, Paul is sharing with us that backbiting and tearing at one another (within the Body of Christ) with words, whether whispered or openly can lead to one another to being consumed.

Consumed?

The word consumed in this verse means being destroyed completely. Sooooooo, this verse is saying ... If you backbite and argue with one another, beware lest ye be destroyed completely by one another. But, how would one be destroyed completely by another's words?

Happens all the time does it not? In a friendship, relationship and even a marriage ... One can say something that completely destroys the Faith (in the relationship) of the other. The end result can be one walking away from the relationship ... Forever.

In like manner ... Many souls can be so hurt after being whispered against or openly disgraced or disrespected by others that they choose to walk away from the Faith ... In particular when it is done by those whom they deemed as friends.

So, Paul is warning us against backbiting and tearing at one another with words lest we destroy one another and thereby harming the Body of Christ. I wanna share something with ya real quick:

His body consists of many members. We simply can't be one with Christ without being with His body also. Our need is for the whole body. We are knit together not only by our need for Jesus, but by our need for each other. Paul states;

1 Corinthians 12:21

And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again they head to the feet, I have no need of you.

Ok, let's look at the next verse shall we?

Here is Verse 16 ...

What is a Reprobate Mind and Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Details on Reprobate Mind in the Bible Danger

This type of behavior has been in the Church from the beginning ...

2 Corinthians 12:20

For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults ...

And I regret to report that they are still within the Church today. We all know what God thinks about these rascals who choose to do so ... As it is spoken clearly:

Romans 1:28-31

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Notice all of the negative and hate filled states of mind mentioned?

What do ya think is the root or source of all these hate filled thoughts resulting in emotions?

They are the usually the result of the seeds planted within our mind by the enemy of our soul. Oft times when we feel hurt, rejected or sometimes just wanna edify ourselves in the eyes of others, the enemy of our soul has no problem hooking us up with some foul thoughts.

Back to the verse for a sec ... God gave these souls over to a reprobate mind? What do ya think it means by "God gave them over" ...

It is when we choose not only to entertain, but to perform the doing thereof that God gives us over to this type of state of mind and heart. Keep in mind it was our choice to entertain and act on said thoughts so He merely allowed us to do our own will.

God allowed these souls who have fallen victim to the spider's web of deceit to adhere to a reprobate state of mind ... What does the word reprobate mean?

What is a Reprobate Mind - Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Research of Reprobate Mind in the Bible Fear

According to another dictionary, the word reprobate means ...

depraved, unprincipled, or wicked

So, God allowed them to adhere to an empty, lawless and wicked mind, probably inspired by the enemy of our souls. Oft times seeking to please themselves instead of God, as it is written:

2 Timothy 3:1-4

1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Have you noticed this type of behavior around you? Even our teens are acting out. Make our little wanna be rebel attitude, when we were kids, look like Mary Poppins or Roy Rogers, huh?

Paul continues ...

2 Timothy 3:7-9

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these [2 Timothy 3:1-4] also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's [Jannes and Jambres] also was.

What is Paul teaching us to do about such individuals, whom we encounter, who use this reprobate mind to harm the Body of Christ? They are to be stopped ... One way or another cuz they seek only self edification and to negatively affect God's works within the Body of Christ.

Titus 1:16

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

These souls seek to destroy any good work within the Body of Christ and it stands to reason why ... They are inspired (temporarily usually) by the enemy of our soul as it is His will to destroy the Body of Christ (the Church).

What is a Reprobate Mind and Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Proof of Reprobate Mind in the Bible Eternal Problem

But, hold on there a sec. Did not Jesus say that Satan cannot destroy the Body of Christ (the Church)?

Matthew 16:18

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it ...

So, why do you believe that the enemy of our soul even tries?

He knows very well that he cannot destroy it from without so he seeks to destroy it from within. By using members of the Body of Christ to work against each other knowing that Jesus also stated that a divided house cannot stand.

Mark 3:25

And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

Oh yeah ... I need to share the final verse from Romans, Chapter One we were discussing earlier.

Romans 1:32

Who knowing the judgment of God that they which commit such things are worthy of death not only do the same but have pleasure in them that do them.

So, those who choose to adhere to this reprobate mind are hurting their own souls.

But ... Why would anyone do that?

We do it all the time don't we? Know something is wrong and choose to do it anyway knowing we are gonna feel horrible later. Even when it comes to God's will, we go against it at times, a lot of times unknowingly.

But wait ... It said knowing such things were wrong and to choose to do the same would bring forth judgment. This brings forth a question to mind and heart and a very important one:

What is a Reprobate Mind / Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Warning of Reprobate Mind in the Bible Description

Do ya think most people who are temporarily under the influence of the enemy of our soul (or one of his human souls who he uses as his puppets to reach others with his rhetoric) know they possess this reprobate mind and are just saying "whatever" to God, or are they being deceived by the enemy and/or his human tools?

Are we one of these who unknowingly have fallen into the web of deception known as the reprobate mind somehow finding pleasure in attacking and backbiting against others within the Body of Christ whereby consuming the Faith of another?

Well, we best find out should we not? Prove whether we have or do not have this reprobate mind when we share by word or deed:

1 Thessalonians 5:21

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Yeah, we have all read that before, but does the Bible actually say that we should prove our own selves whether or not we be reprobate minded?

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the Faith; Prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except [unless] ye be reprobates?

Jesus is within those who are not reprobates.

Does this mean He departs when we are deceived and reprobate minded?

No, just His absence has us cry out as David did ...

Psalms 27:9

Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

It is written that He will never leave or forsake us ...

Hebrews 13:5

For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

No ... He does not leave us. We leave Him.

Then what about what that verse said, "Jesus Christ is in you, except [unless] ye be reprobates." ... Perhaps we gotta think a little more Spiritually. Perhaps it is saying that we have the Spiritual connection with Jesus, unless we have this reprobate mind and then the connection is temporarily broken.

What is a Reprobate Mind and Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Summary of the Reprobate Mind in the Bible Faults

Just as we are the tools of God when we are of a Jesus like mind, those with a reprobate mind are working for the enemy of our soul whether it be knowingly or not. If you could see what is really going on in the Spiritual world, you would see spiritual puppet strings attached to the "buttons" within your mind and the other end is in the hands of the enemy of your soul when you are in this reprobate state of mind.

If you have been in this reprobate mind in the past ...

Philippians 3:13-15

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

What is a Reprobate Mind / Reprobate Mind Bible Verse Study / Reprobate Mind in the Bible Summary

If you ever find yourself within this reprobate mind realm in the future, it does not mean you are evil, belong to Satan or God has abandoned ya, it simply means ya need to run to the Lord as fast as ya can. Pray that He will free you from this sinister plague of the mind and heart and the devil will be the next one you see running.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
