Bad Weather

Written by Luz Leigh - 25 April 2007

All day yesterday and into the evening hours the weathermen on television kept warning us of some turbulence headed our way. That news did not upset me as it would have years ago in relation to my personal safety. But I was concerned for those whose jobs and responsibilities require them to be out in the weather. You know the ones ... law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical technicians ... people who will answer our calls for help no matter what the weather is like.

At bedtime, I made sure my trusty flashlight was handy, batteries working, etc. After a short prayer, I closed my eyes and slept. That is until the rumbling thunder woke me when my whole house shook from the vibrations it produced. The rain came; again I slept for I knew I was secure. The Lord was right there with me.

This morning I noticed my volunteer firefighter neighbors, both of whom are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were late going to their paying jobs. That meant they had spent a long night helping others in some manner. Do you ever pray for these young men and women? I hope you do. On my left arm is a now-fading green armband that I have been wearing for months as a reminder to pray daily for certain young people ... my EMT neighbor is high on that list. Would you join me each day in prayer for those who serve in our community?
