Books - Do You Ever Read One?

Written by Luz Leigh - July 2007

Have you ever wondered what sort of paragraph one could write, using the titles of books on a nearby shelf? Today, we shall see. The Purpose Driven Life sits next to the Practical Problem Solver. Now there is a combination ... God's directions and man's suggestions.

What does the Holy Bible say about Assassins and Approval Addictions? If we open the Bible and read, we more than likely will find something about Stormy Weather and The Rainmaker. That could be reminding us of Noah, his family and the ark.

The Chaplain of Bourbon Street preached on What the Bible is All About, spending hours, both day and night sharing the Word to those who were searching, but knew not for what they were searching.

In the book 100 People Who Changed America, we find astronauts, aviators, authors, explorers, politicians, and sports figures. But, noticeably absent from the list are Rev. Billy Graham, Max Lucado, Paul Harvey, James Dobson and Chuck Swindell, to name but a few. It is sad that the people who compiled the list of those who changed America could list Elvis Presley and not mention Rev. Graham who presented the Gospel of Jesus Christ in such a way that millions of people heard and were affected by it. Many of those who were excluded from the list wrote Stories from the Heart which give encouragement to those who read them.

The Three From Galilee gives us some insight as to what may have happened during the "lost years" of Jesus' life. This book followed Two from Galilee which gives us a glimpse of the love story of the young Jewish couple, Mary and Joseph. Would Gideon's House have been nearby?

Following the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, many began seeking The Silver Chalice and The Robe. These books are interesting reading ... fiction based on fact. The Big Fisherman follows the path that Peter may have taken.

What comfort it is to know He Sees You When You're Sleeping before we begin the journey known to some as Going Home. For many this will happen before Armageddon takes place.

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance gives assistance in our spiritual search of words while The Home Medical Encyclopedia helps with our physical needs. Both sit near the Complete Secretary's Handbook which came to my rescues on more occasions than I can list.

For all these works, we can be thankful for The Justification of Johann Gutenberg, the man who gave us the printing press.

Now turning to much lighter reading, we find Alexander Pope's Selected Poetry and Prose, Old Yeller, and Plant a Geranium in your Cranium. I suppose the last one listed is among my favorites. It was a gift to me by my precious daughter just months before I was diagnosed with cancer. It is the story of a woman who dealt with cancer in a most unusual way ... through humor. As I began reading that book in December 2002, little did I know how much it would help me in the days ahead. So go right on and enjoy the Laughter from Heaven for Joy in the Morning awaits.
