Clouds

Written by Luz Leigh - 21 May 2009

On the wall above my desk is a photo taken at sunset on 04 November 2004. There are heavy, dark ominous clouds hanging over us, but at the edge of the western horizon, there is a bright spot of almost silver looking sky. My son and I were wrapping up a day of driving around the county, removing campaign signs from his recent election. We realized it seemed to have been easier installing them since we did it over a longer period of time, but office seekers are encouraged to remove their signs in a timely manner following Election Day. We were doing just that.

Those dark clouds reminded me that our lives had been under a cloud of sorts for over a year. From the moment he shared with me his intention of running for a certain public office until the night two days prior to this one when the votes were all cast and counted and he had been declared the winner, there was not always bright sunshine. But, as I looked at the horizon and saw that promise of a brighter day, I breathed a sigh of relief and voiced a thank you prayer to our Father for his guidance through that political campaign.

Clouds don't always indicate something bad is about to happen. Remember the cloud that guided the children of Israel has they wandered; during the day the cloud was their guide. When the cloud was upon the tabernacle the people rested; when it was lifted they traveled.

In Matthew's Gospel we are told that a bright cloud appeared following Jesus' transfiguration before Peter, James and John. Out of that cloud GOD's voice spoke saying "This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him." WOW! What a great event.

Jesus taught the people in Luke that when they saw a cloud rise from the west there would be rain (shower).

Physical clouds are signs of weather conditions. Clouds bring relief from heat.

So when we are covered with a "cloud" in our life, remember that cloud is there for a reason. It could be for guidance, for encouragement or for explanation. Seek out why the cloud is there; learn what the LORD is trying to say to you. Let not the cloud overshadow HIS words to you.

Our "cloud" back in 2003 and 2004 was placed there to help us remember to depend on HIS guidance in the campaign. Although we tried each day to allow the LORD to determine the outcome of the election, we as humans still had a little fear that we could lose. We had been down that road before and we knew what defeat feels like. But, that cloud and silver sky at sunset lifted our spirits and once again we went to the throne of grace, thanking HIM for this love and care during those times. God is so good.
