Decisions

Written by Luz Leigh - 02 October 2008

She began her day with her usual prayer of thanksgiving ... thanking the Lord for the restful night He had provided. She continued through her usual list of thanksgiving, then asked Him, as she always does to bless her children. As she named each one, she could see their faces, loving and trusting.

The day's agenda included her becoming a vegetation technician for a few hours. What is a vegetation technician, you asked? Simply a fancy definition of tree or limb trimmer. Now that the Lord has sent some really great cool weather, she is able to work in her yard again. And not a day too soon. There are some young trees that need to be taken down before they are tall enough to interfere with the power lines leading to her home. Having just lived through Hurricane Ike, she is well aware of what tree limbs can do to power lines.

In the back of her mind is the luncheon date she has with some family members. A special meeting in a nearby city which means she will not be able to work outside very long. She had been told how to reach the restaurant where she would be meeting the others. Because she doesn't drive in the city anymore, she is concerned about getting there safely. As she trimmed the limbs she kept asking the Lord to please help her find her way. She has children who would drive her to the appointment, but trying to be independent as long as possible, she had not called on any of them.

After a couple of hours doing her work in the yard, she returned to the house. She decided to call her daughter and tell her of the day's agenda and ask the daughter to confirm the route she needed to take to reach the restaurant. The daughter assured her that she indeed had her directions correct. Then, out of the blue, the daughter said those magic words, "Mom, why don't you let me drive you there and pick you up when the meeting is over?" She tried to protest, but the daughter insisted, telling her that she had planned to drive in either today or tomorrow to do some shopping. It would be no problem. And besides, when the luncheon was over, the two of them could go to the bookstore as they had been talking about visiting for quite some time. She began to shed tears, partly because she did not want to be a burden to any of her children, but some of the tears were of joy. Joy that the Lord had placed it upon her daughter's heart to offer to drive her into the city. He had heard her plea for help.

The woman hung up the phone and reached for her Bible to do her daily Bible reading. What a surprise when she saw the title of today's reading. "Need Help with Decision Making?" The chosen verse was "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." Proverbs 3:5 The writer's lead-off statement was "Getting lost or going in circles is not fun." She thought of her uncertainty of finding her way to the appointed place where she was to meet with her family members. She had been praying for the Lord to help her. And in His own way, he provided that help through the generous offer of her sweet daughter. As she read the closing prayer, she realized how very fitting it was for her situation today ... and everyday. "Lord, I choose to trust Your wisdom instead of my own understanding."

Isn't the Lord wonderful? Doesn't He work in wondrous ways? Once again He came to her aid, as He always does, if she will but turn her problems over to Him. If she will allow Him to be in control and guide her every step.
