God Cares for His Flock

Written by Luz Leigh - 16 April 2008

The past few weeks the wellspring of inspiration to write has sort of dried up. A subject will pop into my head, but then I cannot find enough words to write about it. Today I will be sharing words prepared by a writer in the Open Windows daily devotional pamphlet published by Lifeway.

He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall lead those that are with young. Isaiah 40:11

Isaiah painted a tender picture of the Lord God as read in today's devotional passage. The prophet assured God's people that the Lord would feed His flock.

The Lord still shepherds His people today. God's word is our spiritual food. To feed on it daily is to be assured of spiritual sustenance.

While the Lord is concerned for our spiritual health, He also will help us when we, like lambs, are weak. He will carry us next to Himself, giving us His warmth and assuring us that we are safe in His presence.

Jesus, as John 10:14 promises, is the Good Shepherd. He knows who are His and has laid down His life for them. Knowing that we have a Shepherd who cares for us so much should give us great comfort and keep us close to the fold.

The prayer that closed the above devotional was "Lord, thank You for loving me and looking out for my needs. I feel weak at times. Thank You for carrying me in Your strong arms."

It is such a comfort to know we can go to Him anytime we need help and He will be there. He never moves; we are the ones who pull away from Him.
