Positive or Negative Thoughts - Happy or TB?

Written by Luz Leigh - 01 June 2007

Take a wandering trip with me this morning as I share some random thoughts. While listening to a Christian singer, who goes by the name Carey, I heard the words "there is no need for another Calvary." Those words are from the CD "You Ain't Seen the Last of Jesus!" by Carey. Did you ever think about that? The ugly, horrible cross of Calvary was used ONCE as part of the salvation process by which our Lord sacrificed His only Son. Through that sacrifice and the glorious resurrection three days later, God completed His plan. That plan is written about throughout the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Only one Calvary was needed. Remember as kids we would cry out, "Do over" when something didn't go right? We would want to "do over" whatever the situation was. Well, God has no need for "do over." He did it right the first time. Therefore, there will never be another Calvary.

As we think of Jesus during those hours leading up to his crucifixion, when he was being mocked, unjustly accused of wrongs, beaten, we see a man who remained calm and meek. He was the Lamb being led to the slaughter as predicted in Isaiah 53:7. But, after His death and resurrection, the Lamb became the Lion and the Lion became the King. Another phrase from the above mentioned CD.

I shared with a dear friend that I had been reading the disturbing news about a man who was quarantined after it was discovered he had a highly contagious form of TB. My words to him were that the fear of TB had always lurked in the back of my mind because both my mother and my maternal grandmother had died from that disease. My friend then gave me some advice that I want to share with whomever might read this. I now quote from my friend. "If you have a phobia of a disease what in the world are ya doing reading about it and allowing that phobia to creep around, silly?" (He quite often uses the term "silly" when addressing me ...in an endearing manner.) He further said, "The MIND says: LET THERE BE. The spirit brings it to pass."

He further reminded me that what we believe (THINK TO BE TRUE) we will receive. We should ponder on what we want, not on what we do not want. We are to renew our minds, daily. For encouragement, he pointed me to two scripture passages. Romans 2:12 speaks of our being transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we will know what God's will is for our lives.

When the Apostle Paul was writing to the Philippians, in the fourth chapter, verse 8, he listed the things about we should think in order to renew our minds. These include things that are pure, noble, honest, right, lovely, admirable, and praiseworthy. If we will but think on these things, our lives will be so much happier.

My gratitude goes to my friend for reminding me of these biblical truths.
