Secure in God's Grip

Written by Luz Leigh - 07 February 2009

Once again I would like to quote from Bro. Bob Adams, pastor, First Baptist Church, Bogalusa, LA. When writing a devotional for Open Windows, he gave it the title "Secure in God's Grip." The Scripture reference is from John 10:22-30, with verse 28 as the focus. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. Verse 28

The following are Bro. Adams' words. "My grandfather was a Colorado mountain man and had the grip to prove it! When he shook hands, the effect lingered for a while. When our family tumbled from our crowded car after a long ride to see him, it was sweet pain to shake his hand. One handshake assured me I was in the presence of one who could, and would, protect me."

I'm sure we have all known someone like this grandfather. No limp-as-a-dishrag handshake, but one firm enough to give the impression you were welcome in this person's presence. My daddy had a handshake similar to this grandfather. As our children grew up we taught them to extend their hands and greet folks as if they truly meant it. To this day, that tradition is carried out.

Bro. Adams continues. "The strength of my grandfather is not even a wisp in the wind compared to the strength of Jesus. Our strong Jesus gives us this promise: If you allow me to hold you in My great hand, nothing shall remove you from My care. No power in all creation can tear you away from Me---not even the power of death.

"When life shakes and fear tries to unseat your faith, remember Jesus' promise. Let Him shake hands with you again."

These are powerful, yet comforting, words. When Jesus makes a promise to us, it is there forever and eternal. Will you shake hands with the Savior today?
