The Source of Strength

Written by Luz Leigh - 20 August 2009

Faith and strength. The two just seem to go hand in hand. Today's devotional reading from Open Windows really impressed me. You see, recently I have been trying too hard to carry the load alone, forgetting that my strength comes from my Lord. Part of my ministry for the Lord is to encourage others; and some times I find myself "talking the talk, but not walking the walk." My Faith is there, but I try to draw from MY strength instead of from the One who can supply my every need.

I quote from the devotional:

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord; neither be ye sorry, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Nehemiah 8:10

"I was surprised when the young man I was talking to said, 'You have a joy that is want.' I felt both honored and humbled. Prior to that event, I lacked the courage to share my faith. I would have invited him to church or asked someone else to share about the Lord.

"But that day the joy of knowing the Lord gave me courage. I had discovered that I loved spending time with God. I felt loved by God---which must have been evident. I willingly shared the good news."

In the scripture printed above, Ezra assured the people that the joy that would come from their renewed faith would be the source of their strength. May we as His children, celebrate who God is and what He has done ... and what He will do for us in the future. Our joy in Him can be expressed when we share it with others and serve others.

A few months ago a friend approached me, and asked what made me seem so happy all the time. There was my invitation to tell him about the Source of my happiness. The prayer that closed the devotional went like this:

"Father, what a delight to find my joy in You. Fill me with Your strength as I obey Your Word." amen
