What's in Your Box?

Written by Luz Leigh - 15 October 2007

Sunday I was not able to attend worship services at my home church, so I turned on the television to see what was being wafted across the airways. One channel featured this gyrating group of folks that I believe were singing "church songs" ... not really sure. Then I found a station where a man was speaking, not exactly preaching, but I assumed he was in a church because there in the background were some folks dressed in choir robes. I listened briefly to him until I realized he was not preaching from the Bible, but reading from a secular book. I didn't remain with him long enough to learn if he wrote the book or someone else was the author. There was the familiar 800 number at the bottom of the screen that I could call and get a copy of this wonderful book (for a donation, probably).

Then I clicked over to another minister to whom I usually like to listen, but that morning he was talking way over my head. Of course, that doesn't have to be very many steps up the stairs. He kept referring to scientific words, and I never was good in science.

Finally I found the minister the Lord intended for me get His message from on this Sunday morning. One of the minister's examples was this. Suppose he drew a box ... just an ordinary four-sided box, nothing fancy. Now think of this box as one's heart. What is in your box? If he could, through supernatural methods, look into my heart, what would he see? The answer for which he was searching was Christ.

He told us that many have other things in that box ... not Christ. It could be money, power, spouse, children, political ambitions. Whatever we have in that box except Christ, we need to empty it out. When Christ is the central and only thing in our hearts, HE will add to us whatever we need.

All of what I am typing is not the minister's exact words. I have paraphrased them, added to them and omitted some. But you get the gist of that message, don't you?

It is my desire that each of us will look into our hearts and see exactly what is in there.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts."

Psalms 139:23

"Bear down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge." Proverbs 22:17

"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness." Romans 10:10a
