TAME THE TONGUE BIBLE VERSE CONCERN THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME DANGER
James 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue
among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth
on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. |
What a powerful statement ... And a true one! How much
trouble do we get into because we don't hold our tongue, but instead let it
ignite with careless words? There is so much sin on our lips that James
calls it a WORLD of iniquity. How many occasions does it have to spark a
flame? Or rather, how often do we keep silent when such occasion arises?
The Word cautions us about the fire of the
tongue many times, because when we let careless words out of
our mouths, we not only hurt others, but ourselves as well
... And we seem to find so many many ways to do this. We
condemn, we curse, we demean, we rail, we criticize, we
accuse, we ridicule, we gossip, we let our mouths run out of
control like wildfire ... Why?
Mostly because of our pride ...
Is it that we want everyone to have the same opinions,
ideals and abilities as we do, and when they don't, we feel
we have the right to tear them down with careless words? If
you have a short fuse and feel you haven't the patience to
speak with kindness to another soul, take a deep breath and
pray about it, and the sooner the better.
The Word says that the tongue defiles the
WHOLE body in the scripture from James at the beginning of
this study. So, it stands to reason that if you can control
your tongue, you are likely to control your entire self more
effectively.
Look at how Jesus explained how the tongue defiles a person:
Matthew
15:11
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that
which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Matthew
15:17-19
Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the
mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from
the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed
evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false
witness, blasphemies |
TAME THE TONGUE BIBLE VERSE FEAR THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME PATH
Sooooo, how does this happen? The enemy
of your soul presents a thought. If that thought is
accepted, eventually it is spoken out loud and the games
begin.
Proverbs 17:20
He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a
perverse tongue falleth into mischief. |
Yes, though words are invisible, they
can get you into a LOT of mischief:
Psalms 10:7
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is
mischief and vanity. |
Ecclesiastes 10:12-13
The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a
fool will swallow up himself. The beginning of the words of his
mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous
madness. |
The fire of the tongue can put your SOUL
in jeopardy ... It's true:
Proverbs 18:7
A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of
his soul. |
Proverbs
21:23
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from
troubles. |
Psalms
120:2
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful
tongue. |
TAME THE TONGUE BIBLE VERSE PROBLEM THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME AND PRIDE
Jesus confirms this too:
Matthew
12:36-37
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak,
they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by
thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt
be condemned. |
Man cannot "tame" the tongue.
James
3:8-10
But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil,
full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even
the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are
made after the similitude of God. Out of the same
mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren,
these things ought not so to be. |
But with God's grace and assistance, controlling what words roll off your
lips is possible. Pray for the Lord's hand in helping you to tame your
tongue. Here are a couple of examples from Psalms:
Psalms 19:14
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be
acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. |
Psalms
39:1
To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. I
said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my
tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is
before me. |
TAME THE TONGUE BIBLE VERSE CURSE THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME WOE
Many times people get hurt by another person's careless words, and it's
really a shame. Words can hurt so bad sometimes that it causes some to
want to retaliate and hurt the offender with words even worse than those
they were hurt by. Don't let the enemy trick you into saying things that
hurt other people. In God's image, we are supposed to be compassionate
souls, not dreadful, hurtful, heartless stones.Don't get lost in
taking revenge either:
Romans 12:19
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto
wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the
Lord. |
We're warned not to use our tongues as to
lord over others:
James
3:1
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive
the greater condemnation. |
That is not to say that we shouldn't teach
others in a Christian manner or when they are wrong, but not
to set your own self as the standard of how everyone else
should live or what they should live up to. You may notice
that once a person finds the Lord and commits to following
Him, there is a tendency to believe that nobody else is
entitled to their own time to figure things out like they
did.
Once they realize something is wrong, it is wrong for
EVERYONE from that moment on. Agreed, there are some that
need stronger encouragement than others, but be VERY careful
whenever you are trying to help another soul, no matter
what.
Jude
1:22-23
And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others
save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the
garment spotted by the flesh. |
HOW TO TAME THE TONGUE BIBLE VERSE THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME CURE
Beware also that wit can easily be mistaken for insult.
Choose your words carefully, another's soul may be hurt even when you had
no intention but to be funny or clever or smart or whatever.
In addition, judging others with the fire of the tongue
for what we may deem inadequate is always a dangerous road to travel. Each of us is
given unique gifts from the Holy Spirit and the Lord expects
from each of us according to THAT measure ... He doesn't
expect one person to measure up to another or judge another
whether it be about their gifts or their will power or their
strength or their perseverance or their patience or their
couth or for anything else for that matter.
Matthew
7:1-2
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye
judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it
shall be measured to you again. |
The Lord HATES a froward mouth. What is a froward mouth?
A perverse one.
Proverbs 8:13
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the
evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
Proverbs 4:24
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from
thee.
Proverbs 6:12
A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
Proverbs
10:31
The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue
shall be cut out. |
CUT OUT! Solomon gives us a lot of advice in the
Proverbs. He wasn't the wisest man ever for no reason. We should watch our
mouths because it is advantageous for a good and wholesome life.
Proverbs 13:3
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his
lips shall have destruction. |
TAME THE TONGUE BIBLE VERSE SUMMARY THE TONGUE CAN NO MAN TAME COUNSELING

advice from the Word to encourage you to extinguish any fire that

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that
which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace
unto the hearers. |
Colossians 3:8
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice,
blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. |
1 Peter

his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile ... |

John

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as
I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall
all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to
another. |
