As we continue our Tell me the story of Jesus adventure ... We've
learned about many times Jesus healed people on the Sabbath, and how
the Pharisees and scribes felt that He was wrong to do so. Let's see
what they're up to now in our, A House Divided Bible story.
The fame of Jesus was spreading widely throughout the land. As Jesus
was traveling, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou
son of David, have mercy on us. And when He went into a house, the
blind men came to Him: and Jesus said to them, Do you believe that
I'm able to do this? They said to Him, Yes, Lord. Then He touched
their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done to you. And
their eyes were opened; and Jesus immediately told them, See that no
man know it.
But, when they left, they spread the news in all that country. As
Jesus left, they brought to Him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes
marvelled, saying, We've never seen anything like this in Israel.
Let's take a House Divided Bible field trip. Jesus is still
performing miracles and the wannabe Religious leaders of the time
(living in fear of Jesus being real and therefore, there not being
need of their services any longer) are still making a fuss. Now, had
they chose to hear and adhere to the Words of Jesus instead of
creating a divided house, knowing that a house divided cannot stand,
thereby choosing to divide the people ... They could have been on the
right side of history. Just a House Divided Bible tidbit for you to
ponder upon ...
Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing
every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw
the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they
were weak, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
So, He said to His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the
labourers are few; Pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He will send
forth labourers into His harvest.
There was a man who was possessed by the devil who was brought to
Jesus. The man was also blind and couldn't speak either, so Jesus
cast out the devil and healed the man so that he could see and speak.
It amazed people and they commented, Isn't this the son of David?
(They meant a son of the bloodline of king David.) Again, they
couldn't believe that a local boy could do these things. The crowds
gathered together again and Jesus healed many.
Get ready for this, A House Divided Bible story to get wild. Jesus
and the disciples hadn't eaten because there were so many who wanted
to be healed and virtue left Jesus because everyone wanted to touch
Him to be made well. The disciples heard that He was not Himself
because of the strength that had left Him and they came to hold Him
up because He lost balance. But when the scribes that came down from
Jerusalem saw, they said, He has Beelzebub, and by the prince of the
demons He casts out devils.
Those listening were a divided house. They thought to themselves ...
What is this, Beelzebub? How can that be? Beelzebub is a fallen angel
ranking up there next to Satan. Another tidbit from our A House
Divided Bible story ... He doesn't even deserve his name to be
written with a capital letter at the beginning, and we don't think
Satan deserves as much recognition either, but for grammar's sake,
we'll capitalize it. 😏
Now, back to a house divided cannot stand journey. You know when you're
really tired and you haven't eaten, how you can appear not to have
your wits about you? Your speech may not be as crisp as when you're
feeling rested and your eyes may be dim. Your head may nod and your
reflexes may be slower than normal. And perhaps you've seen in movies
how when a devil is cast out of someone, the exorcist is truly worn
out with fatigue from the loss of virtue.
Well, just imagine, Jesus had been healing many people, casting out
many devils, and couldn't even so much as eat bread because of the
multitudes of people. You'd think that walking a straight line after
such a day wouldn't be expected of Him, but the scribes were accusing
Him of casting out devils in the name of the devil instead of in the
name of God because of His weariness. That's quite an insult.
Jesus knew that the Pharisees and the scribes were thinking these
things, and He called them over to Him and said, Every kingdom
divided against itself is brought to desolation and every city or
house divided against itself shall not stand. That means that when
there is conflict among the people of a kingdom, that kingdom will
end, and a family who is divided against itself (is in conflict with
one another) will not survive. Therefore ... Simple math suggests
that a house divided cannot stand.
A House Divided Bible Point of Interest ... Then Jesus said, And if Satan fights against Satan, he is divided against himself. How then, can his kingdom last? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. (If the scribes and Pharisees believe that the Son of God casts out devils in the name of Satan, then the children (families) of the scribes and Pharisees must believe that Satan has the power to cast out devils, so the devil will be their judge (their god). The Pharisees and scribes did believe in God however, so if they believe that devils can be cast out in the name of Satan, they are a house divided and will not survive.) But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God is come unto you. (Thy Kingdom come.) Then it would not be a divided house.
No man can enter a strong man's house and steal from him unless he
first ties up the strong man. Then he will rob his house. Whoever
isn't with me is against me and whoever doesn't gather with me,
scatters abroad.
A House Divided Bible Trivia Question ... What was Jesus saying to these Pharisees seeking a divided house scribes and Pharisees about a house divided? I mean what does A house divided cannot stand mean spiritually? First of all, remember that they were waiting like lions to pounce on Jesus for anything He did or said so they could accuse Him. They were trying to discredit Jesus (tying up the strong man) so they could make the people believe them (rob his house). They were definitely not with Him, so that makes them divided against Him. And they surely weren't gathering with Him (sharing the Gospel) but scattering abroad (bringing doubt).

Love and Forgiveness ...
The Prodigal Son
Luke 15:11-32
11 And He said, A certain man had two
sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father,
give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto
them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all
together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted
his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine
in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that
country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks
that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired
servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish
with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto
him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as
one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was
yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran,
and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned
against Heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called
thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the
best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes
on his feet:
23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let
us eat, and be merry:
24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was
lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and
drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these
things meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy
father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe
and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came
his father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many
years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy
commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make
merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath
devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted
calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and
all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for
this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is
found.
