STUDY OF THE
FEAR OF DEATH
Sooooooo . . .
You're here . . . And you want to learn more about the fear of
death do you? That's very understandable because it's a very
overwhelming thought ... death is ... unless you understand it.
You've got a lot of questions about death? Take a deep breath, relax
and get ready to learn about it and be released from
the fear of death.
One thing that
may scare you is . . . God. I know you don't want to admit it, but
let's be honest . . . There is this secret fear in most of us that
we believe we're not as good as He wants us to be. There is a TRUTH
you must know and it will calm your fears about this difficult
subject, and that is
GRACE .
. . Don't ever forget about God's Grace, because without it, then a
person would have something to fear, but our Father's Grace is the
key thing that takes away the fear of death and replaces it with
HOPE.
Unless you
understand and accept God's Grace, you will always have a certain
amount of fear hiding inside of you, because guilt and fear go hand
in hand . . . But because of God's tender mercy (don't you just love
that term?) guilt is eliminated IF you accept His generous
gift of Grace, and you no longer live in fear of death, and one day
(the day of judgment) being face to face with God your Father.
Please take
the time to read that last paragraph once again, and let it sink in
good and deep because it's imperative to conquering your fear of
death.
Now, let's get back to the subject at hand. Perhaps learning
more about God will take away your fears. Ironically enough,
there is something called Fear of the Lord, and if you gain this
fear, it may eliminate your fear of death. Fear of the Lord
is the utmost respect and love of Him.
|
Psalms 33:18-19
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear Him, upon
them that hope in His mercy; To
deliver
their soul from death,
and to keep them alive in famine. |
|
Psalms 34:4
I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and
delivered me from all my fears. |
|
Proverbs 14:26-27
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and His children
shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a
fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. |
|
Proverbs 19:23
The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it
shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. |
Look at what else
the Bible says about fear and love:
|
2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power,
and of love, and of a sound mind. |
|
1 John 4:16-18
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us.
God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and
God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have
boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we
in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love
casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth
is not made perfect in love. |
|
Psalms 56:3
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. |
SO . . . . . .
.
You're STILL scared to death . . . Of death, huh?
Of course you
are, because the seed of TRUTH hasn't been planted yet. There's an
old cliché which goes, "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself."
So let's look into this fear of death some more and see what we can
learn. Where is your fear coming from? It certainly
isn't coming from God. As you've learned, He doesn't
want you to fear ANYTHING. Most fear comes from the unknown. This
is a natural thing that you go through many times in your life. A
new job, the first day of school, taking a test, nightmares . . .
The list of the appearance of fearful things is endless. Most every
time, we learned that there was nothing to be afraid
of at all. The logical answer then, is to learn about
what happens during and after death.
What you
REALLY want to know is . . .
What happens to YOU when YOU die.
Let's start with . . . YOU! Who are you, anyway? No, no,
not what name you were given when you were born. No, not what is
your job or career or even what your ambitions are in life. Who are
YOU? To make this a little bit easier to understand, think
about this: God created YOU in HIS image.
|
Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after
our likeness: |
What's
this "OUR" image and "OUR" likeness all about? Let's
take a look at God.
God the Father
God the Son
God the Holy
Spirit
This is
called the Holy Trinity. He is one God, in three divine persons.
|
1 John 5:7
For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father,
the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
|
Let's take an
even closer look.
God the Father
|
John 4:24
God is a Spirit:
and they that worship Him must
worship Him in spirit and in
TRUTH. |
God the Son - Jesus
|
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word
was
God. |
|
John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father,) full of grace and TRUTH. |
God the Holy Spirit
|
John 14:16-17
And I
will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter,
that He may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of TRUTH;
whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not,
neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with
you, and shall be in you. |
Now, if
YOU are created in HIS image, there must be three parts
of you also.
Your soul
Your body
Your spirit
First, let's
talk about the body. The flesh. Maybe along with gravity, it keeps
our souls and spirits anchored to the Earth. It came from the Earth,
and when you die, the body . . . That body that your soul and spirit
have dragged around for a lifetime . . . Goes back where it came
from . . . The Earth.
Look at
the three parts of the Holy Trinity again and connect them to the
three parts of you.
|
God |
Trinity |
You |
|
God |
Father |
Mind/Soul |
|
Word/Jesus |
Son |
Flesh/Body |
|
Comforter/TRUTH |
Holy
Spirit |
Feelings/Emotions |
Now
read these two verses from the book of Genesis to see where the body
came from and what happens to IT when IT dies.
|
Genesis 2:7
And the
LORD God
formed
man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man
became a living soul. |
|
Genesis 3:19
In the
sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread,
till
thou return unto the ground;
for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto
dust shalt thou return. |
~formed man of
the dust of the ground~
~till thou
return unto the ground~
So, now you
know where the body came from and where it goes when it dies,
however, don't neglect to give it the care it deserves.
|
1 Corinthians 6:19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy
Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not
your own? |
|
1 Corinthians 6:20
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God's. |
Next, take a
look at the spirit. What is your spirit? Keep in mind that we are
made in God's image, and He sent the Holy Spirit to teach us TRUTH.
|
John 14:26
But the
Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send
in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. |
It's IMPORTANT for
you to understand that your spirit is the part of you that listens
and obeys the things that your mind tells it to feel. Let me explain
more . . . You have many different feelings. Happiness, sadness,
fear, excitement, love, anger, and so on. Your spirit holds
these emotions. You don’t walk around happy all the time, or angry
all the time, or fearful all the time . . . But your spirit stores
these feelings and when your mind tells your spirit that something
is sad, your spirit says “gotcha” and you become sad in your spirit.
In other words, your spirit reacts to what your mind tells it.
Your mind and your
spirit can cause physical reactions too. Crying, goose bumps,
shaking, laughter as well as other stuff. All this just from a
thought that got into your mind ... These things all happen because
your mind told your spirit something and it caused the physical
reaction.
You can control
your spirit by changing your thoughts. All you have to do, is send
your spirit the signal for a different feeling by thinking
differently. BUT ... Your mind has to believe it to be TRUTH.
By learning the
TRUTH of what happens when and after you die, your mind is giving
your spirit a new reaction to death, and instead of fear, it is
being replaced with the HOPE and COMFORT of the TRUTH.
Many people
think that the spirit and the soul are the same thing, but, your
mind . . . that is (the soul) controls your spirit. Change your mind
(thoughts) to change your spirit.
|
Job 33:4
The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty
hath given me life. |
|
Isaiah 42:5
Thus saith God the LORD, He that created the Heavens, and
stretched them out; He that spread forth the Earth, and that
which cometh out of it; He that giveth breath unto the people
upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: |
What happens
to YOUR spirit when your body dies? Your spirit, the breath of God
in you, goes back to God when your mortal body dies, because it
belongs to Him.
|
Ecclesiastes 12:7
Then shall the dust
return to the Earth as it was: and the spirit shall return
unto God who gave it. |
Here's the
answer to the question asked earlier . . .
Who are YOU, anyway?
You are your
soul. Your soul is your being. It is your existence. When you
think of your virtues, not your physical self, but the things that
make you WHO you are and different from everyone else that
ever existed . . . THAT . . . is WHO YOU ARE.
Finally, the
answer to the fear . . . What happens to YOU . . . Your soul
. . . when your body dies? If you are a believer in Jesus
Christ, it is a journey to look forward to. Let the Bible be your
travel brochure and let the Saints, the Prophets, the Apostles,
Disciples and Angels be your travel agents and guides. Let the Holy
Spirit be your pilot and captain, and enjoy your
trip/vacation/retirement/rest.
|
John 14:2
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I
would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. |
|
1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which
God hath prepared for them that love Him. |
Did you read
that? That means that even if you COULD imagine Heaven, being the
most wonderful place you could ever think of . . . you STILL haven't
imagined a place as wonderful as Heaven truly is, because you
can't. As humans, we don't have the ability to imagine such wonder.
It's just too awesome. But one day we will.
Paul tells us an
interesting thing:
|
1 Corinthians 13:9-12
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that
which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be
done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I
understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became
a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a
glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but
then shall I know even as also I am known. |
Let's discern this beautiful scripture. I'll let Paul explain the
first sentence in his own words:
|
1 Corinthians 8:2
And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth
nothing yet as he ought to know. |
But when that which is perfect ... JESUS ... arrives, our lack of
knowledge will be done away with. Just like when you're a child,
Paul goes on to say, you could only understand things that a child
is capable of understanding, but when you become an adult, you
understand more. Now picture a two way mirror, like they have in
interrogation rooms that you see on television in police stations.
If y ou're
on the mirror side, you don't know what's on the other side, but
from the other side, you know what's on both sides of the glass. As
mortals, our knowledge is limited as well, but those who are changed
from mortal to immortal will put away the understanding of a man,
and understand all . .
. they will come out from behind the glass,
and see (understand) everything. This is part of the HOPE
that eternal life (after this life) holds for us.

Body returns to
dust ... Soul carried away by Angels to Abraham's Bosom |
Below, find the
scripture passages that confirm these steps.
WHEN
DEATH OF THE BODY OF A CHRISTIAN OCCURS ...
The spirit
returns to God:
|
Ecclesiastes 12:7
Then shall the dust return
to the Earth as it was: and
the spirit shall return unto
God who gave it. |
1st death -
Body returns to dust:
|
Genesis 3:19
In the sweat of thy face
shalt thou eat bread,
till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou
taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. |
Your Soul is
carried away by Angels to Abraham's Bosom also known as Paradise:
JESUS SHARED
THIS TRUTH:
|
Luke 16:19-31
There was a certain rich
man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared
sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named
Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And
desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich
man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And
it came to pass, that
the beggar died, and was carried by the Angels into Abraham's
bosom: the rich man also
died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being
in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his
bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on
me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in
water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime
receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things:
but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside
all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so
that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither
can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he
said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send
him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he
may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of
torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the
prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father
Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will
repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the
prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from
the dead. |
At 7th
trumpet, the dead arise and meet Jesus in the air . . . We shall be
changed:
ALL of the
dead in Christ ...
|
1 Corinthians 15:51-52
Behold, I shew you a mystery;
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a
moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last Trump: for the
Trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed. |
|
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
For the Lord Himself
shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the
Archangel, and with the Trump of God: and the dead in Christ
shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be
caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord
in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. |
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb:
|
Revelation 19:9
And he saith unto me, Write,
Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of
the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of
God. |
Millennium -
1st resurrection - 1,000 years of peace on earth - Live and reign
with Christ:
|
Revelation 20:4
And I saw thrones, and they
sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the
souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and
for the Word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast,
neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their
foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with
Christ a thousand years. |
Great White
Throne Judgment:
|
Revelation 20:12
And I saw the dead, small
and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and
another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the
dead were judged out of those things which were written in the
books, according to their works. |
New Heaven and
New Earth - Live forever with God and Jesus:
|
Revelation 21:1-4
And I saw a new Heaven and a
new Earth: for the first Heaven and the first Earth were
passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the
holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a
great voice out of Heaven saying, Behold, the Tabernacle of
God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall
be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be
their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things
are passed away. |
Sooooooo, as
you can see there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
Knowing TRUTH
has just set you FREE from the fear.
|
John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free. |
|
Psalms 116:15
Precious
in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. |
|
Revelation 21:4
And God
shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be
no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there
be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. |
May God Bless
you and guide you in your search and hope of eternal life with Him.
By His Grace may your fear be replaced with anticipation and HOPE.
Carry on and
fear death no more ...
