WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST

WELCOME BACK MY FRIEND

I trust you're taking just one step each day.
If you try and build on top of something before the glue dries,
your project will not turn out very strong. We want it to be perfect!

James 1:4
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Today I have an exciting new project for you that will help you to set and achieve goals. Why are goals an important part of REPRESENTING Jesus?  Because Jesus said:

Matthew 5:48
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.

From what James said at the top of this page, that patience will make us perfect, and what Jesus said, that we should be perfect, it sure looks like patience is something that we should all set as one of our goals!

Do you know what motivation is? It's the reason that a person does something. Jesus is our motivation to set goals. When a lost soul or troubled Christian looks at you, they see someone they admire because of your good character, your good habits, and your good REPRESENTation of Jesus Christ.

You're at a time in your life when you're not only preparing to be an adult ... To handle the life situations that adults are faced with every day, but you're also establishing good habits. Habits are things that are second nature to you ... In other words, you do them almost without thinking.  They are things that you find hard NOT to do. If you establish GOOD habits, you leave less room for bad habits to become part of your life.

The name of this project is:

AIM HIGH

Because goals shouldn't be things that you can do easily. They are things that are challenging and when you reach them, you should feel like you've accomplished something great ... So you don't want to aim for the top of the trees, or even the clouds, but what you really want to do is AIM EVEN HIGHER ...
AIM FOR THE STARS!

This new program is a way of showing God your dedication to your calling. Itís also a way of goal setting. Youíve probably heard many times that itís a proven fact that when you write down your goals on paper, your chances of attaining those goals are much greater than if you donít.

Before we get into the program, let's ponder a little more about you, and how God created YOU in HIS image.

REMEMBER !!!

GOD, JESUS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT ARE THREE IN ONE WHICH MANY CALL

THE TRINITY

God the Father

God the Son

God the Holy Spirit

He is one God, in three Heavenly persons.

1 John 5:7
For there are three that bear record in Heaven,
the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Now, if  YOU are created in GOD'S image, there must be THREE parts of you also.

Your soul

Your body

Your spirit

Look at the three parts of God again and connect them to the three parts of you.

God You
God Mind/Soul
Jesus/Word Flesh/Body
Holy Spirit/Comforter/Truth Feelings/Emotions/Spirit

Sooooo ... You are made up into three individual parts yet you are one person. There is the SOUL, the BODY and the SPIRIT.

The purpose of your AIM HIGH project is to help you strengthen your mind, body, and spirit. Just like eating every day to keep up your strength and nourish your body, you must also take care of the spiritual parts of you. Let's talk a little bit about how you can strengthen these very important parts of you, then we'll talk about the goals that you will set in just a few minutes.

STRENGTHEN YOUR MIND

Your mind (the soul) controls your body (flesh) and your spirit (emotions), so strengthening your mind is a very important thing to do. Your mind tells your body and your spirit how to act and how to react to thoughts that your mind has. Sounds strange huh? Well let me show you just how NORMAL it is.

You are having an absolutely SON-derful day and suddenly you get a call from your friend who tells you that a close friend died. Your mind hears this news through the "ears" and it enters the soul ... You then THINK sad thoughts and immediately your spirit (emotions) are affected and you FEEL different than you did 30 seconds earlier. Your body (flesh) changes and you can feel weak or tears may be created in your eyes. ALL this from one THOUGHT that entered your mind. It is a natural procedure within humans. This procedure within us works the same for all thoughts, just like we learned at the beginning of the program, whether they are good, bad, happy or sad, what you believe is what you receive.

THINK about this TRUTH.

BUT ... What if we controlled those thoughts that enter our mind (soul) ...
Wouldn't we then be able to control our spirit (emotions) and our body (flesh)?

How do you strengthen your mind? With knowledge of the TRUTH.

Now just hold on here a minute ...

Is strengthening the mind one of those new wave or scientific theories?

Where did we get this idea from?

The answer is ...

THE BIBLE

Here are some examples ...

Philippians 2:5
Think like Jesus thought, have a ďJesus likeĒ
mind.

1 Corinthians 2:16
We have the
mind of Christ.

1 Peter 1:13
Strengthen your
mind.

STRENGTHEN YOUR BODY

In the AIM HIGH project, you wonít be strengthening your body physically, but instead, youíll be strengthening the control your mind has over the body. Remember that the mind controls the body, so youíll be using your mind to strengthen your body also.

Check these out ...

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
What? know ye not that your body is the Temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

1 Timothy 4:7-8
Exercise thyself unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Did you get that? The Holy Spirit lives within you, but the Holy Spirit doesn't belong to you ... You belong to Him!

What about that second Bible verse ... Physical exercise does little for a person, but godliness rewards you in all ways!  It's in the Bible!

STRENGTHEN YOUR SPIRIT

Again ... It's IMPORTANT for you to understand that your spirit is the part of you that listens and obeys the things that your mind tells it to feel. Let me explain more ... You have many different emotions. Happiness, sorrow, anxiety, fear, excitement, love, anger, etc., etc. Your spirit holds these emotions. You donít walk around happy all the time, or angry all the time, or fearful all the time. But your spirit stores these feelings and when your mind tells your spirit that something is sad as in the example given before, your spirit says ďgotchaĒ and you become saddened in your spirit. Many people think that the spirit and the soul are the same thing, but, the Bible provided us the TRUTH. Your mind is the soul, and it controls your spirit. Your spirit is like your control center for your feelings and emotions.

Your mind and your spirit can cause physical reactions too. Crying, goose bumps, shaking, laughter as well as other stuff. All this just from a thought planted in your mind ... These all happen because your mind told your spirit something and it caused the physical reaction.

You can control your spirit by changing your thoughts. All you have to do, is send your spirit the signal for a different emotion by thinking differently. BUT ... Your mind has to believe it to be TRUTH.

Have you ever gone out in freezing weather and didnít notice how cold it was outside? Thatís because your spirit was busy with another emotion that your mind had sent the order for, and it was strong enough to keep you from noticing the cold.

Have you ever been thinking of a problem and then got busy with your daily agenda and all day long you felt this bad feeling of doom even though the day was going pretty good? That's because your mind did not resolve the earlier problem and your spirit is crying out because it is reacting to the problem you were thinking of earlier. Even though you are not consciously aware of the thought.

You may think that itís a difficult thing to do, to control your emotions, by controlling your thoughts because theyíre very strong, but with the AIM HIGH project, youíll be strengthening your mind with TRUTH, and youíll find that TRUTH has a way of changing a lot of things.

Later on in the MY BROTHER'S KEEPER program, youíll discover a wonderful surprise that will help you with controlling your thoughts and your spirit.

THE AIM HIGH PROJECT

You will need to perform this daily, taking one day off per week for rest, as we are taught to do. (Honor the Sabbath Day.) This day can be either Saturday (The Jewish Sabbath) or Sunday (The Lord's day) ... You will need to create 3 charts. Each chart will fit on a single sheet of lined paper. One chart will be called Mind the next Body and the third Spirit. For each page, MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT, there are 10 activities per page which means you make 1 column for each activity. (We will talk about the activities in a little bit.) Be sure to add a column at far left of page for the date and another column at the far right for the daily score. This means your page will have 12 columns total.

It may sound confusing right now, but I'll be showing you a sample chart in a second and it will all make sense then.

The grading system is simple ... For each activity that you accomplish, you will give yourself 10 points. There are a possible 100 points per day. At the end of each week, add up the six days and divide it by six and that is your week average. Set goals ... Set a specific reward for yourself if you achieve your goals. Make your reward something you really want to do, and something that will encourage you to continue with your AIM HIGH program and new goals.

100   = A+
90-99 = A
80-89  = B
70-79 = C
60-69 = D
Below 60 = F

Below is a sample AIM HIGH chart. Make your own charts like this with pencil and paper. Following the chart, Iíll show you how it works.

You will need to create three charts like the one above and name each one accordingly (MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT). There will be different activities on each page to enhance your Mind Body and Spirit.

Fill in the dates along the left hand column.

Along the top row of each area, you will write in the activities that you choose to do.

As you complete an activity, you will write a 10 (points) or a YES in the column underneath it corresponding with the date.

At the end of each day, total up your points for each separate area and write the number in the column on the right where it says ďPoints.Ē

For the activities that you donít accomplish,

write a big red NO in the box.

NOTE: You should hate to see the color RED!

You can also add up the points at the end of the week and write them in the row at the bottom of each area where it says ďAverageĒ to see your weekly grade.

You can do monthly totals as well if you like. Just add all totals and divide by the amount of days.
Do not include Sabbaths.

AIM HIGH is flexible, because you can change your activity topics whenever you want to. If you feel like a certain activity is too difficult or time consuming to accomplish every day, you can adjust it, or create a more reasonable activity. You can also have one activity count for two points, if it takes a long time to accomplish, so instead of 7 activities, you may only have 6 in one area.

FREE

NOTE:  Everyone knows that life is not particularly cooperative all the time. Therefore, IN ADDITION to your Sabbath days off, allow yourself 3 days each month as FREE DAYS when you can excuse yourself from your activities with no penalty on your grade. If you're sick, or can't find time because of unexpected circumstances, or whatever the reason, this is the time to take a FREE day.

PSSSSSSST
Here is another allowable thing concerning your Aim High activities. If you do any of your Aim High activities on a Sabbath or a FREE day, they may be carried over to the next day. In fact, if you want to get several days ahead because you anticipate that you won't be able to do your Aim High activities because of a foreseen conflict in your schedule, you may do that too. Perhaps you're expecting out of town company or you have to take a business trip or are going out of town on vacation, these are times when you may choose to get ahead. When you do this, don't neglect God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit on those FREE days. He still exists in your life, even when time does not allow for certain other things.

AIM HIGH is flexible, because you can change your activity topics whenever you want to. If you feel like a certain activity is too difficult or time consuming to accomplish every day, you can adjust it, or create a more reasonable activity. In addition, as you overcome a certain problem or habit, you can remove it from your Aim High chart and add a new one that you want to overcome.

SUGGESTIONS

I can give you some ideas for activities, but remember, these are examples only. You will custom design your AIM HIGH project for your individual needs and goals.

Your AIM HIGH project should be challenging and enjoyable.

STRENGTHEN YOUR MIND

Pray 3 times a day.

Read a chapter of the Bible.

Read 5 Psalms.

Read one chapter of Proverbs.

Read a spiritual book for ___ minutes.

Read the Daily Word.

Do a Bible crossword puzzle.

Play a Christian board game.

(You can also include your MY BROTHER'S KEEPER STEPS too, until youíre finished, or go back through them again if you like.)

STRENGTHEN YOUR BODY

Be completely still and quiet with your eyes closed for ___ minutes.

Break a habit, by only having a certain amount of candy, soda, etc., per day.

Stop cussing.

Chores.

Homework.

Do a good deed for someone that takes physical effort.

Exercise ... Specific exercise programs you create.

Weight loss program.

Hygiene (Brush your teeth at least twice a day, or something else you tend to forget to do.)

Volunteer for a worthy cause. (A couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon could give you points for several days or the entire week depending on how much time you spend.

STRENGTHEN YOUR SPIRIT

Listen to some Christian music, concentrating on the words. I encourage you to listen to spiritual music whenever you can, but for your points, isolate this activity so you can give it your full attention.

Spend time alone with the Holy Spirit. (Actually provide a seat for Him.)

Attend a Bible study or other church function. (Again, this can cover as many points as you think is fair.)

Sing a hymn - singing comes from the spirit.

Light a candle. (Fire is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.)

Praising comes from the spirit, too. Spend 5 minutes praising God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Write a psalm to God.

Again, these are only examples. If ten activities per day are too many to accomplish for you, by all means, customize your program so that your goals are attainable. Your program should be reasonable to attain. The last thing you want to do is set up an impossible program. At the same time, keep the leap of faith factor in there, and count on the Holy Spirit to help you attain goals that you ask Him to help you with.

If you find that you don't have a large block of time at any given time of the day, break up your Aim High activities into several different segments and that may make your goals easier to attain.

I encourage you to replace your activities from time to time. Not all of them at once, but one or a couple at a time. Give yourself some variety. Keep it exciting. You should never grow bored with it. If you do, change the activities that need perking up.

Before any given month is over, you should have your AIM HIGH chart for the next month made and ready to go. It shows God your eagerness to succeed for Him, and when your new month begins, you wonít have to stop and make a chart when you can be starting your activities.

AIM HIGH is also like a spiritual offering to God. You are sacrificing your time to give it to HIM. He sacrificed His only Sonís life for you, now youíre giving Him back a piece of your life. By strengthening your mind, body, and spirit, it is a way of glorifying HIM.

The Apostle Paul said:

Philippians 3:13-14
I donít consider myself to have achieved, but this one thing I do, forgetting the things in the past, and reaching forward, I strive for the GOAL, for the prize of the CALLING of God in Christ Jesus.

FORGET THE PAST, THINK FORWARD!

AIM HIGH!

REACH FOR THE STARS!

STEP #5

To complete this We have the Mind of Christ step you must CHOOSE to create your We have the Mind of Christ Aim High Charts. Come up with the topics for each chart. Start putting these charts to use. You will begin to control your thoughts and improve in areas that you placed on your Aim High charts. You will find that these will help you to better serve God as to REPRESENT Him.

Continuing in EACH step daily is so very important.

Go back over each step often to be sure you have not missed anything.

To continue our program, you can return tomorrow and select:
