Genuine Jesus Bloodline

The Bloodline of Jesus Christ

Let's try and solve the oft times confusing, Bloodline of Jesus puzzle, shall we? The Bible shares with us much information about the Bloodline of Jesus Christ throughout the Bible, but in this particular exploration, we will focus mainly on two books in the New Testament (Matthew and Luke) because they share the most about the actual lineage of the Bloodline of Jesus which after an in-depth examination, proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that Jesus is the Lord. We will begin with a Jesus bloodline Bible promise to Abraham from God within the Old Testament;

Genesis 12:1-3

1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall ALL families of the earth be blessed.

God made a twofold promise to Abraham concerning what would become the Bloodline of Jesus Christ. The first was a material promise that he would be the father of many nations and that kings would descend from him. God promised him that his progeny would inherit the land of Canaan, an expanse that He defined as stretching from the Nile to the Euphrates rivers. The second, but more important, promise was Spiritual in nature. God promised Abraham that due to Abraham's Seed, all the nations of the earth would be blessed. This promise encompasses the life and work of Abraham's best known and most revered descendant, Jesus Christ.

This promise was later extended to include the inheritance of the whole world (Romans 4:13). For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.) Abraham's physical descendants, the nation of Israel, inherited the land of Canaan. This was a type of Abraham's spiritual descendants inheriting the earth.

God remembers the Gentiles when He calls Abraham, promising that every nation, all the families of the earth, will be blessed in the blessings of Abraham. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles (Romans 11:13), carries the thought to its conclusion when he asserts that the line demarcating Jew and Gentile disappears in Christ: There is neither Jew nor Greek; ... for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Galatians 3:28-29

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Jesus Bloodline Bible Promise
The Bloodline of Jesus Christ Vow

Where to find God's promise to King David.

2 Samuel 7:11-16 and 1 Chronicles 17:11-15.

In summary, the promise is this:

  • The Son of God will come from David's seed.
  • David's seed will reign for ever from David's throne in Jerusalem.

The bloodline of Jesus Christ is now confirmation of the the promises given to David by the Lord;

God promised Abraham that through his bloodline, God would bring forth the promise. This promise would prove to come from the Abraham Bloodline. He confirmed this promise through many of those within this bloodline over the years. From Abraham to King David.

Genesis 12:3

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Genesis 17:19

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Numbers 24:17

I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

Genesis 49:10

The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

2 Samuel 7:12-16

12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

The bloodline of Jesus Christ our Lord is shared with us in the books of Matthew and Luke. The problem with the Jesus Bloodline Bible list is that Matthew and Luke gave us two different bloodline timelines. Let's take a look at these two Bloodline of Jesus Christ lists as to discern how different they really are and why they would be different.

Matthew 1:1-17

1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

This difference causes many to lift an eyebrow because most believe that both of the followers of Jesus should have written the same thing. But is that the way it is when two people tell a story? Should Matthew and Luke have an identical Jesus bloodline family tree? We best do a little more research into this to find peace in this concerning matter.

Luke 3:23-38

23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

29 Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi,
30 Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim,
31 Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,
32 Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Booz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson,
33 Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda,
34 Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor,
35 Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,

38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

Jesus Bloodline Mystery
The Bloodline of Jesus Christ Differences

The Lord told David that his throne would be established forever. From the very detailed Jesus Bloodline Bible Scripture that you just read, it appears that the everlasting Kingdom would be established through Solomon after David, because it was Solomon who built the Lord's house. The book of Matthew shows the generations before Jesus, back to Abraham.

Luke 2:4

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (Because he was of the house and lineage of David) ...

Luke 1:26-27

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

Now again ... There's a curious thing about the Bloodline of Jesus Christ Timeline comparison. Luke shows us a bloodline that goes backward from Jesus all the way back to Adam, but between Joseph and David, Luke follows the Jesus bloodline lineage of David's son Nathan, not Solomon.

Although both of these family trees suggest that they are the "bloodline of Joseph" (the husband of Mary who is the Mother of Jesus):

  • According to Matthew: Jacob begat Joseph.
  • According to Luke: Joseph, was the son of Heli.

They are two completely different Jesus Bloodline lists from David to Joseph.

The bloodline of Jesus Christ is a spiritual matter. Jesus was not a blood relative to Joseph, because, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit by Mary, and Joseph was kinda like His step-dad. Mary was the cousin of Elisabeth, who was of the daughters of Aaron, which suggests that they were probably of the tribe of Levi, not of Judah.

Genesis 49:10

The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

As we continue seeking insight into the Bloodline of Jesus Christ, you will also notice in the Bible that it is very rare for the name of any woman to be included in a bloodline, as the family name is carried on through the male children. Mary and Joseph were simply vessels by which Jesus was born in the flesh and raised. He is the Son of God.

A couple of interesting notes:

In Matthew's Jesus Bloodline Bible account, he says from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations, but he only lists 13.

Also, the Bloodline of Jesus Christ in Matthew follows the bloodline of Joseph through Solomon, which includes all of the kings of Judah, but in Matthew's list, there are 4 generations of kings missing: Joash, Amaziah, Azariah, and Zedekiah.

Check out what God said in the Word of the Lord about Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah.

Jeremiah 22:29-30

29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord.
30 Thus saith the Lord, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

Perhaps this explains the missing names. They were told by the Lord ... Write ye this man childless ... Only God knows. Speaking of what God knew ... He knew that He was going to place Jesus in the bloodline and told mankind ahead of time by way of the prophet Isaiah:

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

The Bloodline of Jesus Christ is so very important to understand because the Jesus bloodline Bible prophecy is being confirmed that Jesus is the promised Messiah ... Our Lord.
