Greetings! There's more Daily Bread on the table, so let's dig in! What do we know so far from the first chapter of this letter? We can surmise that someone was stirring up trouble in Corinth, spreading rumors about Paul. So far, we know that someone falsely accused Paul of erratically changing his mind about visiting them. At the end of the chapter, Paul's first reaction was to point out that his actions are according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Paul explains that he loves them so much that he doesn't want to visit them on a sad note ... Having to admonish them for things, because it doesn't really make for a pleasant visit. He tells them that he wrote with a very troubled and heavy heart, not to gieve them, but to reveal his love for them, not to make them sad. After all, if they are sad, who is going to make Paul happy? Let's read it first hand together:
1 But I determined this with myself, that I would not come
again to you in heaviness.
2 For if I make you sorry [sad], who is he then that
maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry [sad] by me?
3 And I wrote this same unto you, lest [for fear], when I
came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice;
having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote
unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye
might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

Doesn't that yank on your heart strings? Here's Paul, being slandered and he's worried about the Corinthians being ashamed, and just wants them to know all the more that he loves them.
So, the person who told these fibs about Paul, has been chastened by others in Corinth and Paul lets them know that it is enough now, and that he is not so troubled by it to hold a grudge, and that if they continue to pursecute this soul, they are likely to lose faith.
5 But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me,
but in part [only a little]: that I may not overcharge [be to strict
with] you all.
6 Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was
inflicted of many [enough now].
7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and
comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with
overmuch sorrow.
8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm [assure]
your love toward him.
9 For to this end [reason] also did I write, that I might
know the proof [Truth] of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I
forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it
in the person [presence] of Christ;
11 Lest [or else] Satan should get an advantage of us: for
we are not ignorant of his devices [trickery].

An interesting note, if you like to read the text out of the Bible, back in Paul's day, when people wanted to show their sincerity about something or claim that something was true, they would add "in the person (presence) of Christ" to their claim, and they meant it literally as well, kind of like giving your word with Jesus watching.
You'll notice that today, people are much more careless about how they wield about the name of the Lord and say things insensitively, without even thinking of what they mean when they say things like, "in front of God and everybody." Reverence is definitely a quality that the society of today lacks. Just another pondering point.
Another thing to tuck away in your memory banks is that satan would probably like nothing more than when there are situations like this, that people would be unforgiving and dwell on the punishment instead of forgiveness. It reminds me a little bit of his unsuccessful attempts with Job, hoping to pull out evil in people. Great advice from Paul interjected here, covering all the bases as always.

Paul goes on now to explain that a door of opportunity to preach Christ's Gospel in Troas, but he became worried because he couldn't find his friend Titus. From there he went to Macedonia.
He explains how fulfilling it is to be victorious in introducing Christ by His leading and how welcoming they are everywhere he goes.
15 For we are unto God a sweet savour [fragrance] of
Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish [the lost]:
16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death [a
deadly stench that kills]; and to the other the savour of life unto
life [a fragrance that brings life]. And who is sufficient for these
things?
17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God:
but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in
Christ.

Paul has a great defense for his credibility, by putting the Corinthians in his shoes, saying, Look at who we are! Who's adequate for the jobs that God needs done? He uses the word "we" a lot in these last verses, so maybe he's pointing out (between the lines) that they, too, may face being called a fraud someday, but in God's eyes, "we" are the ones who are good enough to work for Him.
Paul uses his own unique psychology to get his point across. Even though he may include a little warning between the lines, he focuses on positive things, building up the believers and always guiding them to a righteous path. But, he doesn't want them to get carried away with the building up and become puffed up, so you'll have to join in again next time, and see what his next message is, right here at Daily Bread.
There is a force out there that is attempting to overtake us all; it is Satan. There is another force that is protecting us from him; it is the Holy Spirit. It is a battle for souls. This battle is called Spiritual Warfare, and like it or not, you are right in the middle of it.
