The General Epistle of James is a little different than most books in the New Testament as James seems to teach of works whereas Paul teaches about Grace. This is not really unusual as Paul was teaching the Gentiles and James was teaching the Jewish people and James knew they were under the Jewish customs and tried to adhere to their understanding of the law.
The General Epistle of James examines the interrelation of faith and works. Though the Christian knows that faith alone is sufficient for salvation, one must practice their faith and the result of that practice is works. A Christian will WANT to perform the works of faith. Faith endures trials. Trials come and go, but a Christian strong in faith will face them head-on and develop a resistance to them. Faith displays itself in works ... That is James' message in The General Epistle of James.
