Let us begin, shall we? Many believe that Patience is one of the hardest virtues to attain. We are taught to keep our souls by way of patience ...
In your patience possess ye your souls.
This virtue of patience is to be maintained even during trials and tribulation ...
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers
temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh
patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be
perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
We are to endure trials and tribulation and in doing so our patience virtue is established:
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also:
knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Sounds easy enough but we know it is not. We should consider those before us who have endured with patience when we feel overcome:
Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
Job is an excellent example of how to get patience ... He did so by enduring the trials and tribulations.
Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
We are to hold on to our Faith and with patience await the fruits of the Spirit to become our reactions as compared to our old worldly reactions:
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the Word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
These are the fruits of the Spirit which are to become our reaction ...
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Now what deeds do we have to do to have these fruits be our reactions?
So, often we want to be healed and do what is right so very bad that we get discouraged when we fall. We must understand that just as it is when we plant a garden that we do not see fruit for a very long time tho we nurture the plants often. But, with patience, the fruits do eventually come forth. That in like manner we are being healed and changed from within.
We must not trust on our own abilities but rather have patience knowing that just as God performs the Miracle of a seed becoming fruit, that God is doing the same magic within us:
Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
We must understand that tho we plant the seeds and water our souls with the Word of God ... That it is God, by way of the Holy Spirit of Truth, who brings forth the results in His own time:
So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
We must wait upon the Lord. God said that He would place the laws within our heart as time goes on;
I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts.
As these laws are slowly written within our hearts, it is then that we will begin a little here and a little there to react as we are to do. This procedure takes time so be patient and do not be so hard on yourselves when you fall ... Repent, be forgiven, forgive yourself and carry on.
We are hoping in the unseen and sometimes we lose sight of our cause during trials, but with hope we can overcome anything ...
But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
We must allow this virtue of patience to establish hope within us ...
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also:
knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
If we hold the patience, we receive the promise of Eternal Life:
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
It is patience and trust in God's Word that brings us this hope that we need to endure ...
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
We must finish the race and to do so we need the virtue of patience;
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
This is the virtue of patience path all those before us overcame. How to get patience? That too takes the virtue of patience.
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
We serve the God of Patience ...
Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus ...
