What is Fornication in the Bible
It is always nice to have you back with us at Daily Bread! Great to have you here again to share another slice of Daily Bread. Our study today is about a very controversial topic ... Fornication.
Judging anyone about this matter is out of the question since every adult that ever lived is guilty of it according to these words:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
And respecting everyone's right not to be judged, we as Christians are still obligated to warn our fellow Christians when something puts their soul in danger. Double check with your heart and ask yourself, What do I really believe? Is fornication right or is it wrong? Is the act really worth my integrity in my Lord's eyes?

Fornication in the Bible Meaning
Okay, now let's get that letter from Paul back out, and unroll the parchment out to Chapter 5 of 1 Corinthians and see what he has to tell us about this. Apparently there was fornication going on in Corinth. Not only was it fornication, but incest. It was known about publicly and the circumstances were very shameful. This kind of thing wasn't known to be a common occurrence among the Gentiles.
In his concern and bewilderment, Paul can't believe that the Corinthians were "puffed up," about the incident instead of mourning about it because in such circumstances, the punishment would be excommunication.
What does this mean, "puffed up?" Well, it could mean that they're boasting about it (similar to today's world where adultery is promoted in all kinds of media), or advertising it like scandals are usually gossiped about, or, it could mean they're angry about it. In any case, they weren't mourning about it, which was the response which Paul thought would be the proper one.
Before you read the next verse, recall that Paul said in Chapter 2, Verse 15, He that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
Biblical Fornication Bible Verses Facts
Fornication in the Bible Concern
3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit,
have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that
hath so done this deed,
4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are
gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus
Christ,
5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of
the flesh [this is another way of saying to excommunicate the
person], that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
6 Your glorying [acceptance of this] is not good.
Does this sound extreme to you? Look at it this way. As long as this person is within the congregation, and the congregation is accepting his behavior by not taking any action against him, the entire congregation is brought down by it, because remember, we are one body. If the hand gets a cut and has an infection the whole body suffers from it.
So would you have God punish the whole lot? Of course not, so Paul is saying, separate the offender, cast him out and then God can deal with him separately. Incidentally, what happens when you're thrown out? You're away from God. You're alone with the enemy.

Fornication in the Bible Warning
How much more efficiently can you show a person that they need to get back on the right path? One bad apple spoils the whole bunch. Paul relates this same thing using leaven as a good analogy for the fornicator, or ... we may even use it for as an analogy for Sin.
7 Purge [cleanse] out therefore the old leaven [sin], that
ye may be a new lump [pure], as ye are unleavened. For even Christ
our passover is sacrificed [put to death] for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven,
neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the
unleavened bread of sincerity and Truth.
Paul then explains that in a previous letter, he told them not to company with fornicators, or several other kinds of evil doers of the world, but then explains, that one cannot totally and completely avoid any kind of contact with them, since the world is so full of them that one would have to leave the world. But now, Paul says, I'm telling you not to associate with those who profess to be Christians and practice these things.

Fornication in the Bible Summary
Those who are outside the Faith are not in our jurisdiction to judge. But aren't we responsible for those within the church? But them that are without (outside the Faith) God judges. So separate yourselves from anyone who gives Christianity a bad name.
