Moses and Joshua Relationship Explained
True Friendship in the Bible Events

Good day to you from Daily Bread. Before we continue, it may be wise for you to consider looking into what true friendship truly is. As you may have guessed, this was probably a very emotional time for all of Israel. You can bet they were anxious and happy about entering the Promised Land any day soon and yet torn at their hearts, knowing that Moses wasn't going with them.

Moses, 120 years old now, assures Israel that the Lord would go ahead of them into the Promised Land and destroy the nations before them. He encourages them to be strong and courageous and not to fear because God will not abandon them.

Then Moses extended this same encouragement to Joshua personally in the sight of all Israel, and Moses wrote the law, and gave it to the Levites that carry the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord and to all the elders of Israel. He then commanded them that the law was to be read aloud in its entirety, every seven years in the year of release (Chapter 15), during the Feast of Tabernacles, in the ears of all of Israel.

After that, God told Moses that his time to die was nearing and to bring Joshua to the Tabernacle of the Congregation. The Lord appeared in a pillar of a cloud and commissioned Joshua.

Then God told Moses exactly what Israel would do after his death. They would forsake God and break His covenant, and worship other gods, which will anger the Lord and He will hide His face from them. Many terrible things will happen to them and they will ask, Is this happening because our God is not with us?

So the Lord told Moses to write a song and teach it to the children of Israel so that when they have inherited the land and grown rich and turned to other gods, the song will be a witness for Him against Israel and will not be forgotten by their children. Moses wrote the song that same day and taught it to the children of Israel.
