All the Commandments in the Bible

Welcome to our Christianity Oasis Daily Bread study program. This is the Commandments Bible study taking a look into all the Commandments in the Bible and how the Commandments messages affect your be-YOU-tiful Christian walk.

The Commandments of Old Covenant
All the Commandments in the Bible Both Covenants

So great to have you here to share more Daily Bread. Before you begin, be sure that you understand that Christians are not under the Old Covenant but rather are subject to the New Covenant.

Today we're gonna start off with a Daily Bread crumb! The name Deuteronomy comes from the Greek words deuter (second) + nomos (law). Now the book of Deuteronomy is not a "second" law, but rather like the law repeated a second time.

In Chapter 5 (as well as much of the book of Deuteronomy), you'll see what I'm talking about. It appears that this is another of Moses' farewell messages to Israel, and he begins by reciting the Ten Commandments, which you'll also find in Exodus, Chapter 20.

The Commandments of God
All The Commandments in the Bible Old Testament

You'll notice that there are places where the wording isn't exactly the same in Exodus and Deuteronomy, but have you ever told the same story twice ... Using the exact same words both times? Sometimes when you tell a story that you've told before, you may forget a part, or you may remember something that you didn't tell the last time.

The point is ... This is a great reason to read Deuteronomy, because though you may have read much of this stuff somewhere in the previous four books of Moses, there are additions, and as we noted before, it is directed to the average person of the congregation rather than the priests, so chances are, you'll find more meaning in it.

Just a reminder though. Don't forget this law was for the Hebrews. It was the Old Testament. Remember that in the New Testament, the Lord put the law in our hearts, and the Old Testament is done away with.

Again ... Always remember that Christians are not under the Old Covenant laws. We are under the New Covenant. Can't wait until next time we share Daily Bread together. See you again soon!
