The Moses Birth Event
It's great to have you back again with us at Daily Bread as today we
look at another very well known story about the birth of Moses in the
Bible.
Our setting of the birth of Moses in the Bible is in Egypt, where at
the time, the children of Israel were slaves because the Pharaoh was
afraid of how strong of a people the Hebrews were becoming in Egypt.
He ordered every Hebrew son that was born to be thrown into the
river. But for one baby boy, things turned out a little differently.
There was a man from the tribe of Levi, who married a woman from the
tribe of Levi. She had a son and when she saw that he was a beautiful
baby, she hid him for three months. When she couldn't hide him any
longer, she made a basket and put the baby in it among the reeds by
the river bank. His sister Miriam stood out of sight watching to see
what would happen to him.
Then Pharaoh's daughter came down to the river with her maidens and
when she saw the basket, she sent a maid to get it. When she opened
it, she saw a crying baby boy, and she pitied him, saying, This is
one of the Hebrews' children.

The Moses Birth Miracle
Miriam was very quick and said to Pharaoh's daughter, Should I go and
get a Hebrew woman that can nurse the baby for you? And Pharaoh's
daughter said, Go, so Miriam went and got her mother. Pharaoh's
daughter said to her, Take the baby away and nurse it for me and I
will pay you, so she took the baby.
The child grew and was brought to Pharaoh's daughter and he became
her son. Because she took him out of the water, she named him Moses,
which means, Drawn forth.
When Moses was grown, he saw his people and their affliction. One day
he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew. Moses looked around and when
nobody was in sight, he killed the Egyptian and buried him in the
sand.
The next day, two Hebrew men were fighting with one another and Moses
said to the one who did wrong, Why did you hit your friend? The man
said, Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill
me like you killed the Egyptian?
Moses was afraid because what he did was known. When Pharaoh heard
about it, he planned to kill Moses, but Moses left and came to the
land of Midian. He sat down by a well.

The Moses Birth Was an Answered Prayer
The priest of Midian had seven daughters and they came to the well to
water their father's flock. When they returned home soon, Jethro,
their father asked, Why are you back so early today? They answered,
An Egyptian saved us from the shepherds and watered the flock too.
Jethro sent them back to get Moses to eat with them. Moses was happy
to stay with Jethro, and he gave Moses his daughter Zipporah for a
wife. They had a son, and they named him Gershom, which means, A
stranger here, because Moses said, I've been a stranger in a strange
land.
Years passed and the Pharaoh died. The children of Israel were weary
of the slavery and when they cried, God heard them. He remembered his
promise with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and God was concerned about
them.
